A couple of days away from the farm is all it takes to remind me just how much I love this life!
I relished every moment of farm chores yesterday...
taking the time to share a little extra lovin' with each and every one of my charges.
I happily scooped manure to the song of the bluebird as the sun rose in the east.
A new day began and I felt so blessed to be present to witness it.
The horses spent the morning in the pasture,
so by the time they came back into the dry lot,
they were in need of naps.
I watched as some were on the ground asleep...
while others slept while standing (not as deep a sleep as lying down.)
About a half hour later (when I was without my camera),
I passed the dry lot and found all of them on the ground, asleep...
all at the same time (a very rare occurrence!)
These two little gals got into a bit of mischief yesterday afternoon.
I heard about it second hand...and have no photos of the mayhem.
The story goes like this...
Yesterday afternoon, our neighbor, Kathy, happened to look across the road
to see what she thought were two deer grazing by our gazebo.
A second glance made her realize that they were two wayward donkeys.
Apparently, while cleaning pastures, I inadvertently left the back gate to the donkey yard unlocked.
A few hours later the gate must have blown open and Daphne and Chloe
decided to seize the opportunity and make a break for it.
Donkeys are not terribly adventurous, so I doubt that they would have strayed too far.
Luckily, though, Kathy was able to shepherd them back into their yard....
of course that took a bit of maneuvering, as these two were not about to be led back
by halter and rope....
that would have been too easy....and donkeys never do things the easy way!
I am happy to announce that the snow in the pig yard has finally melted.
Ginger and MaryAnn are even happier!
Today is Hubbs' birthday...and here is Hubbs' birthday present.
Meet Ivy...the newest member of the family...
Hubbs' indoor kitty.
She is a rescue from our local shelter.... a young stray who is extremely personable.
I am sure she will eventually have a few tales of her own to tell!

Early morning is the best time of the day and having that many chores to do would just be icing on the cake!
Happy birthday to you! What a great birthday present. Is this an indoor outdoor cat? Is there a litter box? Welcome to the family Ivy.... You are a very lucky cat. Have a wonderful day.
Enjoy, Janie
