There is nothing I would like more in the world
than to be able to tell you a joyful tale of a puppy rescued and
the family that lived happily ever after.
Actually, before yesterday, that tale was true.
What I have come to realize is that our dog family right now is perfect.
Now, let's fast forward through yesterday.
Fast forwarding would be great, because as days go, yesterday was tough.
We met sweet Rosie yesterday, and she seemed like the physical reincarnation of Maddie...
Rosie walked like her, drooled like her, looked like her....
but that's where the similarities end.
With tears of remembrance and a few tears of sadness,
I made the wise decision to pass on Rosie.
Rosie's story is a sad one, for sure.
Although right now she is being fostered in a good home with lots of love.
Rosie needs a whole lot of work...
no, I mean a WHOLE lot of work....
the kind of work that someone with no other dogs should attempt.
My fear, if we adopted Rosie, would be that I would need to spend so much time
training and getting her to bond with me...
to the detriment of my already near-perfect three dogs.
Sadly, Rosie was seized with 86 other animals from a hoarder.
Dehydrated, malnourished, she was almost left for dead.
She has bounced around from foster home to foster home...
spending the cold of February and March outside...
before her current rescue found her.
She has been adopted and returned.
So in her six months she has not bonded with a human...
leaving her in need of a whole lot of care and patience and time.
If I had no other dogs, I would jump at a chance to turn her life around...
but with the three that I have...
in all conscience, I cannot do that to them.
So, I am sorry...but a tough decision was made.
I am not happy about it...
but I have more peace than I did when considering keeping her.
The closer it came time to make the adoption decision,
the more panic I started to feel.
I have to go with my gut on this one.
And yet...I feel awful.
For Rosie....
and the thousands of dogs like her in this world.
But that's a whole other tale.
The timing could not be worse, either...
Annie was just spayed yesterday and will need a little extra attention in the next few days.
Thanks for listening...
I'll be back on Monday with more Tails from the Farm...
I promise they will be Happy Tails!!!

Kathy
Have a great weekend.
"Gotta do what I gotta do!"
I hope the foster home can continue to bring about the best for "Maddie look alike!"
Wishing you a good weekend!
I volunteer at our local shelter and see so many dogs and cats without homes. Surprisingly most seem to find a home eventually. I'm sure Rosie will too.
Blessings
Diane
