While I was handing out pear snacks to the horses, yesterday,
the donkeys became quite jealous.
If you've spent any time with donkeys, then you will know that an upset donkey
can be quite loud....letting out a bray something like a siren!
I had one tiny piece of pear left, so I offered it to the girls.
Wouldn't you know, they both turn up their noses and walked away.
"What's Mom trying to feed us? She says the horses like pears...
What do horses know?"
Hating to leave them disappointed, I fetched an apple and divided it into bites.
Chloe took a sniff first, and decided that apples appealed to her about as much as pears.
Daphne, on the other hand, sniffed...
and then opened her mouth....
took the apple, and chew-chew-chew....swallowed it down.
She followed the first piece with several more.
And then for some reason, Daphne must have had a strange feeling in her mouth,
because she started wiping her lips on the fence and the gate...
as if she were trying to wipe off something unpleasant.
I tried offering her another piece of apple.
Her response, after sniffing it: "No thank you."
At least she tried it...
which is more than I can say for Chloe.
Having a discriminating taste may be the reason why Chloe has maintained her girlish figure,
while Daphne (seated) has become quite the "Chubbs"!
