Hubbs and I were treated to quite a bit of farm help on Saturday.
Nine year old Aaron and his parents, Kelly and Chris,
arose at the crack of dawn
and headed to the farm for a day of fun.
Not long after their arrival,
Amelia and her Mom, Candace joined the group.
Kelly and Candace work with Hubbs.
They were winners of an auction item that we had donated...
a certificate for "A Day on Bee Haven Acres".
This auction was held to benefit a coworker with cancer.
Saturday they redeemed their certificate.
They all readily joined in with morning feeding and mucking duties.
Aaron and Amelia were enthralled with the animals.
After morning chores were complete,
the boys went on a four wheeling expedition through the woods,
while the girls lounged by the pool.
A lunchtime cookout with local, organic beef burgers,
farm fresh produce and salads
and fresh farm peach pie
topped with local vanilla ice cream
fueled the eager farm hands for the afternoon
beekeeping activities.
Aaron happily overcame his fear of bees
becoming quite adept with the smoker,
and will have great stories to take back to school with him this fall.
Amelia's favorite activity was gathering eggs....
and she did so without a single broken egg!
An added bonus for us was...
with the help of Chris and an umbrella, we finally were able
to get a "fainting" picture of Sally.
Fred, on the other hand, was not as cooperative.
I think everyone enjoyed the day...
and we sure appreciated the help!
