French Adventure #4

Before heading to the Mediterranean coast,
we are going back to Paris for a quick visit of a couple of cathedrals
that I missed showing you.

First... Sacré Coeur

Built on the highest point of Paris... Montmartré...

this cathedral overlooks the entire city.

My favorite of the churches and cathedrals was St. Chappelle.
This gothic chapel is located on the same island in the Seine River as Notre Dame.
It was consecrated in 1248 and was located within the Royal Palace that was used by the
kings of France until the early 1400's.

Entering on ground level, you enter into this beautiful chapel...

The ceiling...

The rose window at the back of the chapel...

Climb the spiral staircase located on both sides of the back of the chapel,
and you enter into this incredible chapel...

I have never seen stained glass windows before that were this spectacular!

I was completely awestruck by these windows...
crafted in the 13th century.

Here is a link to more information about this truly unique church.
You might enjoy reading a little more about it...

Now that we've seen a few manmade wonders, let's head to the
Mediterranean coast for some natural wonders.

We drove to the Mediterranean town of Cassis...
a small fishing town on the southern coast.

It has the look and vibe of a French Riviera vacation spot.
We took a boat ride to see the beautiful coastline with its rocky inlets.
On our way out of the marina I saw these tiny sailboats full of
school children, being towed by adults... too stinking cute!

I guess it's never too early to learn to sail!

The coastline... absolutely gorgeous!

A lovely inlet...

A beach... inside one of the inlets.
I have no idea how these people reached this beach without a boat.

Crystal clear water... you could see the whole way to the bottom
as well as all of the colorful fish.

We really enjoyed this lovely day in the south of France.

Well... I have shown you all of the highlights of our trip.
It was definitely a bucket list item for me.
I will likely spend the rest of my days searching for macarons
like I tasted in France.
(I will definitely check out the Philadelphia restaurant that was suggested!!)
So, for now....
Au revoir!
Á bientot!

I love all the walking that is required there. That staircase would surely be a great workout!

The stained glass is stunning! It's amazing to think how long ago it was created and is still just as beautiful today.

Oh, I'm gonna miss France!
I love stained glass and that chapel is indeed magnificent! I'm surprised you don't try to make your own French macarons at home, being the excellent baker you are.
