It's hard to believe that the beginning of a new school year is upon us. Next week we will once again see the local school bus pass by our farm every morning during morning chores. We had hoped to end summer vacation with another overnight farm visit with the littles.
We picked them up yesterday morning and spent the day with a sleepover until this evening.
We filled our day with play around the farm (between a few rain showers)...
picking and eating tomatoes in the garden.
We were invited to pick some of our neighbors' corn. The kids were excited to pick the corn that we would eat for supper.
We picked enough for supper with plenty left over for freezing.
They were quite pleased with their accomplishment. Kids find a kind of joy in picking food to eat for a meal. I wish that all children had the opportunity to see how food grows and how working in cooperation with our land is beneficial for the life of the land as well as ourselves. We talked about how important healthy food is to our bodies. We also had tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes from the garden for our supper.
After supper, Jack and the boys built a fire so that we could make s'mores.
