It's hard to believe that the beginning of a new school year is upon us.  Next week we will once again see the local school bus pass by our farm every morning during morning chores.  We had hoped to end summer vacation with another overnight farm visit with the littles.

We picked them up yesterday morning and spent the day with a sleepover until this evening.

We filled our day with play around the farm (between a few rain showers)...

picking and eating tomatoes in the garden.

We were invited to pick some of our neighbors' corn.  The kids were excited to pick the corn that we would eat for supper.

We picked enough for supper with plenty left over for freezing.

They were quite pleased with their accomplishment.  Kids find a kind of joy in picking food to eat for a meal.  I wish that all children had the opportunity to see how food grows and how working in cooperation with our land is beneficial for the life of the land as well as ourselves.  We talked about how important   healthy food is to our bodies.  We also had tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes from the garden for our supper.

After supper, Jack and the boys built a fire so that we could make s'mores.

I can't think of a better end of summer treat than campfire s'mores!

Meanwhile, Forrest found an artesian spring in the woods next to us.

He has an uncanny way of finding places to cool off.

Earlier in the day, we found him taking a dip in Ginger pig's pool.

A perfect way for the kids to wind down their summer vacation with an overnight or two at the Farm with the animals, great food, and s'mores!
Forrest has got to be part otter 🦦 ... ❤️
Making memories is always #1 on our list of things to do with our littles! So glad you had a fun time with them. Oh boy! S'mores are a perfecting ending to the summertime fun! Forrest is such fun too! Did you know he was a water dog you got him? Is it his breed to be one? Garden goodies, you can't go wrong with that. Reading your blog often makes me think of my childhood on our farm and the farms of my aunts and uncles. Loved being in the country and farm life is the best!

My dad passed away in June of this year. His middle name is Forrest. Every time I see your dog, Forrest, I get a smile on my face and it also reminds me of my dad. It's not a common name and I love that you chose to call your beautiful boy Forrest. I love his antics, and he brings so much joy. Thank you. Ranee (MN)
