Special Days On The Farm

Sunday into Monday was our Elijah's first solo stay with Grammie and Muppy.  His older siblings have spent the night here countless times, but until now, Elijah had not.  In fact, he had not had any sleepovers without his siblings, ever.  So... this was a pretty big deal.

And judging from his reaction to his special time, I believe it is just the first in many special visits.

This guy is such a willing farmhand, and just might be our best pooper-scooper to date.

He's quite meticulous and takes his jobs very seriously.

He enjoyed giving treats to Ginger and Faith,

and ventured into the front pasture to give Ginger a little extra loving.

No visit is ever complete without a little driving time in the mini-gator!

We took the dogs for their daily walk in the woods and spent a lot of time looking at acorns.

We talked about how they grow into big oak trees... at least the ones that aren't eaten by the animals, or stuffed in the pocket of an almost-three-year-old!

We searched the ground for mushrooms and found a few new varieties:

Ear jelly fungus...

Horse mushroom...

Wood mushroom...

A tree trunk covered in fungus...

This family of mushrooms was deep below the exposed root of a tree...

And best of all, a cauliflower mushroom...

On the way back from the woods, Forrest entertained us all as he romped through a huge puddle in the riding arena.

I guess we can check "swimming" off of his daily list!

It's been a gift to have special time with each of our grandchildren.  Days like these help to cement the bond we have with these precious souls.  Happy memories to last a lifetime!

I wonder if you have kept a running tally of all your different mushrooms you have discovered in your woods? What is the number, do you know?
Thank you for another lovely visit to BHA ... it's the perfect way to start my days as I have my morning coffee ☕!

Your post on Elijah’s visit had me smiling and chucking beginning to end!
I must admit that many of your different mushrooms look the same to me despite different names. Good reason not to go out and pick and eat them! 😄
