Forgotten Submission?

Yesterday's mail brought a big surprise.  A large, plain white envelope came from Farm and Ranch Living Magazine.  I assumed it was a subscription offer, but opened it anyways.

In addition to the above copy of their magazine, was this letter...

I paged through the magazine, until I came upon this particular page.  Something looked quite familiar here!  For the life of me, I cannot remember sending this submission in to this magazine.  If I did... I did so many years ago.  This particular photo is a pretty old one, as my hair has not been that short for the past six years!

Regardless, it sure was a fun surprise!!  Ginger and MaryAnn are famous!!  They've made it to the Big Time, or was that the Pig Time?

I am happy to report that Forrest and Ramona are settling in quite nicely.  Upon my opening of the door to the duck house yesterday morning, they ran right out into the yard and hopped in their hot tub (pool that had just been filled with warm water).  Once bath time was complete, they enjoyed a snack of collard greens.

The other ducks were quite curious, and kept waddling over to check out the greens.  No one else partook of the delicacy, however!

As the other ducks would approach, Forrest and Ramona would retreat.

Then, after the other ducks waddled away disinterested, Forrest and Ramona would continue snacking.

This little dance repeated over and over.

Yesterday was a lovely, but still bitter cold, day.

I took my inspiration from the newly fallen layer of snow and painted a snow scene from a stock photograph that I found online.  It's not great, but it was fun to try and I learned some things in the process.

Are you wondering what happened to the two lovely loaves of salt-free bread?  Well, I am happy to report that the chickens just loved them!  By noon time all that was left was a single heel.

As I headed back to the house, I was greeted at the snack box by four beggars.  Always looking for a treat...

It's the only time these two venture out of their houses right now!

One thing that I miss about Summer and Autumn are the fresh flowers that I can bring in the house to enjoy.  Yesterday, Jack had an appt. off of the farm - and brought these home for me...

Oh, how I love fresh flowers!!  Thanks, Jack.

I was asked by a quilting magazine for permission to publish a quilt I made. I think I received $100 for it. Years later, like 8, they published it again, this time without my name. I contacted them and they apologized and sent me another $100 and added my name in the next magazine. I only knew this happened because the second time, the quilt hit the cover and I saw it walking down the magazine aisle at the grocery store!

Congratulations on getting published! What a wonderful surprise!

One of the things I love about raising chooks and worms is that there is very little waste from our kitchen!

Have a lovely day.
Will you ask Ginger and MaryAnn if I can have their autograph?

Color was refreshing in the midst of white and grey.
Great magazine mention . . .
Liked the duck dancing over collard greens.
Soon they will be “one happy family.”

Pretty cool, your making it into that magazine! They sure have good taste! Glad your saltless bread was a treat to the chickens and collard greens a treat to at least 2 ducks! Yes, it's still bitterly cold here too. 1 above was our high today and going down to 20 below tonight. At least we're a day closer to Spring! And it's staying light longer!

Thinking about magazines you might read, do you read Mary Janes Farm? A friend of my mother's gave me some back issues and it all reminds me of you. Lisa G in TN
