I Have Hay in My Underwear And Tinsel In My Hair!

I ask you...am I crazy?

For some reason, this year, unlike most in the past few...
I am over the moon with excitement over the holidays.

It's that excitement that caused me to dress up like the Wicked Witch of the West
just two weeks ago.
And now?
Now, I have classic Christmas music playing and I am starting to decorate!
(Just a little.)
It's early... I know...
but this year I want to enjoy the holidays without the rush of shopping and decorating.

Don't worry...we haven't cut down our trees yet.
And I haven't really even gotten the Christmas decor out...
I am just dipping my toe into winter.

I merely set up a Hot Cocoa station in my dining room...

a little warmth to fight off the cold nights that we have been having...
and a little promise of the decorating yet to be done.

I have been so excited to dedicate an area of the kitchen to all things hot and chocolate!

I've made homes-made marshmallows and they are delicious...

especially floating in a big cup of creamy, chocolatey goodness.

I will admit... I am a bit of a hot chocolate snob.

I avoid the powdered stuff that you mix with water and go straight for the
shaved dark chocolate melted in hot milk.

Williams-Sonoma makes a great hot chocolate...

and while it is a bit pricey, it is 50% off after the holidays and saves well from year to year.

My two tins are a couple of years old and are still as good as they were when purchased.

I have so many fond memories of Christmases past...
both from when I was a child and a young adult with children of my own.
It seems that later in life we develop a certain nostalgia for the way things were.
Time has a way of framing precious memories and making them look all the sweeter.

And so, rather than fret about the preparations that come along with Christmas,
I am immersing myself in nostalgia this year, with chestnuts roasting on my open fire...
tinsel in my hair and FaLaLaLaLaLa's rolling off my tongue.

As for the "hay in my underwear"...
that's just how we roll around here!

I've been chomping at the bit to see your cocoa station...I love it!!! Homemade marshmallows to boot...who could resist. Good idea to start decorating early to avoid the last minute rush...I think I should do the same. Thanks for sharing.

I'm lazy with the hot chocolate making, yours looks so much more delicious. Love the station! And.. since we're having Thanksgiving at my SIL's house this year and I'm not hosting it... I'm looking at all the fall decor and pondering a sooner transition to winter.. but it's still so warm outside it's hard to get it going...

I love good hot chocolate! I understand about the nostalgia, I sometimes think the regret I feel that it's just 'not the same anymore' makes me not look forward to the holidays and decorating as I used to. Change is hard, no matter your age.
