Every Puppy Needs A Boy!

As I sit here typing, it is 82 degrees outside.  Suddenly, the windows are open and the house is filled with the sound of birdsong and the smell of fertilizer.  It's a part of life in the country... farmers fertilize their fields in the springtime.  I'd love to write about the heady aroma of lilacs on the breeze, but... at the present moment that would be a fib.  Still, all in all, springtime is so very lovely.

Our weekend started out cool and rainy.  It wasn't the best weather for a weekend with one of our Littles, but we made the most of it.  Despite the drizzle, we took a hike in the woods...

and talked about all of the mosses and ferns and fungi that we saw.

Forrest had a blast... having a child to run and play with - chasing sticks and playing keep-away.

We topped Saturday off with a visit to a local ice cream stand.

We had planned on cooking Sunday Farm Breakfast at the fire pit in the woods, however, Saturday's rain had made it too wet and cold.  Hopefully we'll do that on a warmer weekend this summer.

Although it's fun to have all of the kids visit the farm, it's nice to have some concentrated one-on-one time with them as well.  And, as we all know... Littles don't stay that way for very long!

Sunday, the sun came out again. - warming the air and drying the land.  Hubbs spent a little time on Sunday afternoon with one of our local Girl Scout troops.  They were working on a service project - building bat houses and hanging them in a nearby town.  Jack had cut all of the parts earlier in preparation for the girls to assemble them.

When they were done building their houses, they helped out with afternoon chores.

After months of quiet, the farm has awakened. It's wonderful to once again have children running over its land, enjoying the nature here in our little haven!

PS:  I just placed an order for 15 new chicks to arrive mid-May.  This time of year is so exciting.  So many fun projects are ahead in the coming months!
