Won't Somebody Play?

Temperatures climbed yesterday, beginning a week of weather that should transform our winter wonderland back to winter Mudville.  With a sunrise like yesterday's you would think that the sun might be responsible for the melt... but this was the last we saw of the sun!

I spent yesterday with a couple of special friends... exploring the craft of sourdough bread baking.

By the end of our time together, these two gals had baked their first beautiful loaves to take home with them... along with some fresh starter and all of the instructions I could muster.

I'm on a crusade to bring the world back to eating good, healthy sourdough bread... one or two bakers at a time!
It was a super fun morning filled with lively conversation and lots of dough play!
Meanwhile, Forrest was outside with Jack burning off a little steam.
The ponies were in the upper pasture grazing, and Forrest could not resist the temptation of playing with them.

Forrest approaches and Donnie gives him the signal that he is not in the mood to play.  It's a standoff.

Forrest slinks in a little closer.  Donnie firmly plants his hooves.

Then Forrest races around Donnie and Donnie goes back to grazing... unimpressed.

Donnie watches as Forrest runs circles around him.

What's a guy have to do to get a pony to chase him?

Donnie: "I thought we were rid of this annoyance!"
Well, Donnie... at least you guys get a break from him when you aren't out grazing!

PS:  To Ann:  you had asked if I had any warm glove recommendations.  I always buy a pair of yellow leather winter Rancher's gloves that are lined. (Tractor Supply has them).  I have found that the secret to getting maximum warmth out of any glove is to buy them in the largest size that they come.  Yes... they are way too big for me, but I have learned to use them for chores without them falling off.  Wearing them extra large allows pockets of air around each of your fingers, thus keeping them warmer.  This is why mittens work so well to keep all of your fingers warm.

Also... in the autumn when the weather gets cold, I hold off on wearing gloves as long as possible to get my hands used to the cold.   This really helps, too.

Thanks for the glove recommendation, Beverly! I didn't think along those lines. Big gloves it is! :)
I’ve been thinking about dropping a note - the warm shawl that you knitted is so nice to curl up in while reading a favorite book on these frosty winter evenings-thanks so much for sharing your talents! Now I’m going to go back through your blog and reread bread posts – my goal this winter is to work hard at breadmaking - oh, those lucky friends, I’m sure you had a great time together!

What a beautiful sunrise...Even if I was awake, I wouldn't be able to see it through the trees even in the winter..Winter is sunsets..Summer neither..
Glad you had a fun bread day!!!
Forrest is just a big tease..
I've always been a mitten girl ...They seem to do the best when it comes to keeping hands warm even though I don't have my fingers to use very well..Hugs..
That sunrise was spectacular! I see you still have snow hanging around your place.....looks so pretty. We are warming up here for the time being....and greatly enjoying the mid to upper 30's and even forties next week. Make winter go a little faster! Loved seeing the smiles on your friends faces as they made their sourdough bread!
