I swear, I could write a blog based only on the antics of our barn cats. What a crew we have right now... Beatrix X2, Moll, Phat Gus, Cheerio (orange cat that comes only to dine and get out of the weather), and last, but never least, Pete. Big Pete. He is so heavy, not fat, he is actually hard to lift! And Pete is everywhere. Seriously, everywhere you look... there is Pete. Yesterday morning, he was walking the top of my garden fence.
This boy cracks me up. He's special, for sure. But then, they all are!
Lots and lots of clouds rolled in yesterday morning... a harbinger of the rain we are scheduled to receive over the next few days.
We need rain badly. Normally, April is a very rainy month for us - but not this year.
If things warm up after this bout of rain, the garden will grow like gangbusters! I did want to show you how I am marking what is planted in the garden boxes this season.
We have a lot of these smooth river rocks around the farm. So I gathered some and spray painted them a lovely light lavender color and used a big sharpie to mark them.
One last photo from yesterday... Annie as we finished up morning chores. This girl is our silent partner - always there, quietly observing. Unlike Chester who is "in-your-face" most of the time, this girl is a sedate and lady-like. Whereas Chester can't hold his licker, Annie prefers to give the softest "air kisses" where her tongue barely even touches your cheek. It's hard for me to believe that she is 9 years old! It still feels like yesterday that we brought her home from the rescue... scared, skinny, and terribly shy. I spent the first week just sitting on the couch with her trying to get her comfortable and secure. She's been our best friend ever since! And she's living a life filled with gratitude after the rough beginning she had as a puppy living off the land and fending for herself.
I am going to be taking next week off from blogging, but we will be back to chat on Monday, May 8th. Until we meet again... have a wonderful week. Hopefully, wherever you are, you are finally getting some signs of Spring! Enjoy them!
Sending a week's worth of hugs from the farm!
PS: for those who wondered if we would replace our rooster... yes, if one happens to come along it will be more than welcome. In fact... Maggie just bought 5 baby chicks to raise at her house. When they are large enough, they will come to live at the farm... and if there happens to be a rooster amongst these adorable fluff balls, he is certainly welcome!

Just to let you know, there is a pen called "Garden Marker", which works much better than Sharpies outside. They last for years and they are not easily faded.
Cheers!
Annie is beautiful and we can tell she is well cared for as are all your beautiful fur buddies. I have never seen anyone care of the land and animals as well as you two do.
April has been a rainy month for us but the flowers have been blooming here. Beautiful tulips, daffodils and the lilacs are in full swing as well. My dogwood tree is gorgeous this time of year and our robin who has her nest on the porch perches in its branches to sing her morning song. The apple tree is blooming too! Such beauty all around us to enjoy!
Love, love the photos of all the kitties - and Pete is so special. And your doggie girl Annie!
