Muckity-Muck

On days like yesterday, we feed the horses under cover.  It's the only way to get them in out of the rain for a bit.

There were streams running through the dry lot.  Luckily, the barn sits on the highest point.

I never have to worry about anyone else, however.  When it rains as hard as it did yesterday morning, everyone else has the good sense to stay indoors.  And so, this is the scene as the pigs eat their breakfast...

Even our sheepy girl, who has the thickest wool - which, because of the lanolin, keeps her skin dry, is not a fan of the rain.  Those of us who wear wool sweaters know that wool grows in the rain and then shrinks in the dryer.  Faith likes her sweater just as it is... fitting perfectly!

It was an unusually loud morning around the barn.  The guineas were not at all pleased with the weather conditions and voiced their displeasure heartily!  Even Chester was not happy - and only rode along to the barn in order to clean out the morning's cat food cans.  (He'll brave anything for those!)

As for us humans, we slog through the mud delivering breakfast in bed to everyone, ever thankful for good water-proof rain gear.

The work gets done just like every morning.  Everyone gets room service delivery.

These girls will stay put until the rain is over.

Donkeys hate to be messy.

And these two are nothing short of divas!

But on mornings like this, returning home to a fire in the fireplace is just a little more enticing than usual!

Thankfully, the temperature remains above freezing, so those who are wet will, at least, not freeze!

PS:  Did you know that horse manure weighs a whole lot more when it is raining?  Because it is comprised mostly of partially digested hay, it soaks up water like crazy!  If truth were told, I prefer frozen poopcicles - they freeze dry and become much lighter in the cold!

We bid you adieu for a couple of days, as the weekend is upon us.  With no plans in the works, the weekend is wide open for whatever happens (or nothing).  Either way, we will enjoy the days and share their stories with you on Monday.  Be well!  Sending hugs from the farm!

I just can't believe all the warm weather you're having this year. We have snowbanks higher than I can ever imagine this year and you have rain and mud! Incredible. Do you usually get snow in the winter? I can't even remember your previous winters now...but it seems like you used to get snow, at least for part of the winter. Whatever is best for you and your critters, that is what I will hope and pray for, for you. Have a great weekend! Love your pics!
