An Unexpected Change

I awoke yesterday morning to a fresh, unexpected snowfall.

The sight of it filled me with such happiness.  The world shimmered and my soul felt light.  I have had a shift in perspective over the past several days.

I set an intention to welcome as much positive energy into my life as I can and then give it back to the universe whenever possible.

Yesterday's snow, as it covered the mud of the previous week reminded me that a shift in mindset can be  received just as easily as the earth receives the snow.  It's a matter of being open and receptive and willing to look at life from different perspectives.

Just the addition of a half inch of glistening, crystalized flakes made the world fresh and clean.  And though the snow will melt and leave the ground muddy once more - its beauty was worth the inconvenience.  And the water absorbed by our land is so very important to life.

The sunrise was spectacular...

bathing the herd in a warm glow

as they enjoyed their breakfast in the front pasture.

The birds were not as happy with the snow as I was.

As we drove out to the barn for morning chores,

I had my usual passenger on my lap.  Bobby rides to the barn both mornings and evenings... an adventure.

A word about MaryAnn.  She has been seen by our vet... and because she does not seem to suffer at all, we have opted to do nothing.  It is most likely she has a cancer of some sort based on her previous symptoms. As long as she is not suffering, we have opted to not put her through the trauma of an extensive medical work up.  We would never let her suffer, but at the same time we will not subject her to something that would not improve her quality of life.

She loves to eat.  She loves her snacks.  She loves affection and enjoys going out to roam the pasture.  One of her daily habits is to take a drink from the watering can that we use to fill her water tubs.  She's a sweet soul and seems to enjoy life in spite of her apparent situation.

I was happy to be greeted, yesterday morning, by Pete.  He finally decided to get out of bed and heartily ate his breakfast.

He rode along in the gator with me while I cleaned pastures in the afternoon.

So, whatever had him down on Sunday, seems to be passing.

After a morning of grazing... an afternoon nap in the sunshine - heavenly!

Just to share a little carbohydrate porn with you.... yesterday's bread baking... delicious!

Ps…. We will be back on Thursday…. No Wednesday blog this week.

So glad Pete is on the mend!
I love your perspective on the snow. I am focusing this year on being more intentional each day with my gratitude. And opening the doors that I know await us.

Question about the donkeys-I notice their ears are often back against their heads. With horses, at least, that usually means they are angry or upset. Is it the same with the donkeys?

Beautiful photos. Enjoy your day off!

It's not heartening news about MaryAnn but you are probably right about the guess ... she will live out her life and, hopefully, just fall asleep and slip over that bridge!
So glad Pete is up and about and back to his usual routine with you!
The snow ... 😞 We've been up in the 50s and almost 60° forecast for today!
See you on Thursday!
Bev, I don't respond nearly enough on your blog. But I want to tell you, I read it every day and it always brightens me up. I am glad Pete is feeling better. I was a little concerned but I knew you would be checking up on him during the day. Have you always had such a positive attitude? I so admire that and I try to do that too. But I don't always succeed. Anyway, thanks so much for your blog.
I forogt to ask. Did you grow up on a farm? You just seem to adapt to things so easily.

Your words are always so encouraging to me. With our current shortage of eggs I am contemplating getting chickens again. With your vast knowledge, is there anything you are currently doing to try and avoid any illness with your brood? My husband seems to think that there is really no way to avoid contamination as long as natures birds surround us. I want to prove him wrong, of course. Any tips from other readers would be much appreciated.

Also, a huge Happy New Year to everyone! Especially my much loved Uncle "THE BEARDED ONE"

Mimi of Five-The only thing I do for our chooks is to feed them a "clean" feed, lots of greens and add apple cider vinegar to their water once a week. The ACV is supposed to help keep their immune systems healthy. Get chooks-you'll be so glad you did! ;0D
Oh good grief that BREAD...stunning, magazine-worthy, and would absolutely be gone in no time here (spread with butter, jam, etc.)

Could we talk you into a post of sharing your bread recipes...or maybe one a week? I'll search older posts, I know I've found one of your recipes I love, but these look like a winter activity I need to do!
