Wooly Bear Predictions and More

I believe my last words on Friday was that our weekend was going to be a quiet one - but of course that was always subject to change.

Three words to describe the weekend?

Non-stop action!

Three of our Littles spent the weekend with us.  Their house is for sale and there was a weekend full of showings.  Staying at the farm made keeping their house clean and picked up much easier.

It was a beautiful autumn weekend, unseasonably warm, with highs in the mid-70's.

Our new morning routine with the horses  leading themselves to the front pasture continues to work splendidly.  They are happy to follow Moonbeam to the upper pastures - making a bee line to the lush green grass.

This weekend, bringing the horses back to the barn was simple.  Mackenzie and Easton led Red and Ollie...

then Scarlet and Donnie back to the barn all by themselves!  I love that these two are so comfortable with all of the animals.  A task like this does much to boost the self-esteem of a child!

We were able to catch Tyler's last soccer game of the season.  He's gotten so big and is at the stage where he prefers spending his time with his friends.  I miss the days when Tyler was little.  He was a great little farm helper in those days!  I have learned to truly enjoy the Littles while they are young.  They grow up. all too quickly.

We also had Anna's girls spend much of the weekend playing here as well.  Anna helps us with farm chores and has been off on maternity leave for the past few weeks.  She surprised us and returned to help with Saturday morning chores - just three weeks after delivering!

These kids have so much fun together and there is nothing better than a house filled with chatter and laughter!

Much of our weekend was spent outside enjoying nature.  Collecting wooly bear caterpillars was fascinating to all of them.

I told them how you can supposedly predict the winter by the amount of brown on the wooly bear.  Our wooly bears are almost completely brown which means we should have a mild winter.  We'll see if that holds true.  If this weekend was any indication of what lies ahead, the wooly bears might be right!

Sunday afternoon Maggie and Macy and their Mom arrived to spend the day.  Maggie and Macy are off school today, so they spent the night with us here on the farm.

I love that these two teens love spending time here.

No visit is complete without stopping to say hello to Forest - they raised him at their house after hatching out a few of our duck eggs.  Then, when he was full grown, he came back to live on the farm.  I think he remembers his first Mama, though.

Lucky you! A weekend spent with littles is always a great one with the added bonus of friends too. It is a blessing that they enjoy the farm.
Haven't seen any wooly bears here yet. Though everyone said last year was to be a bad winter and it was very mild. Will have to wait and see what this year is going to be.
Hard to believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close now.
