Not a day goes by that I am not grateful to Hubbs for the life we have here on the farm. It's more than that, though...
He is always Johnny on the spot whenever help is needed - often doing more than his share - never complaining, ever!
He is kind and loving to the animals and is as committed as I am to making their lives as good as possible.
Even rewarding two bad piggies with crackers when they get in the way of donkey breakfasts!
We make a good team in caring for this farm.
He supports all of my crazy ideas, and has a few ideas of his own. There's not much he cannot do and certainly nothing he won't try to do. He's definitely a Jack-of-all-trades (and it doesn't hurt that his name is Jack!)
Yesterday morning, I overslept just a little. I had had some difficulty sleeping the previous night. When I awoke, it was already light out and Jack and the dogs were gone - already out doing the morning chores.
Making the most of a morning off, I showered and dressed. It was a cool morning, so I put on one of my favorite long skirts. I have found that skirts give as much coverage as jeans, but are way more comfortable. There's not much I can't do in a long skirt. (remember these words)
By mid-morning it was time to bring in the horses. I grabbed Moonie, telling Hubbs, I would be right back to help him with the rest of the herd.
In his capable way, though....
After that, we busied ourselves with this and that around the house, until the grass was dry enough to mow. The recent rains had really made the grass grow and it was definitely time to cut it. We have two riding mowers and usually mow together. There are certain areas that are best mowed by one or the other of the mowers. I typically take the smaller mower and do all of the grass right around the barn and garden areas, while Jack mows the larger expanses with the bigger mower.
Having finished mowing around the garden boxes,
I moved on to the grass beside the horses' dry lot. Round and round I mowed. And then I needed to back the mower down a small hill beside our feed shed. I backed the mower until it touched the dry lot fence (as I always do). Then I put it in forward and turned on the blades. I tried to move, but, I was stuck. The mower wouldn't budge. Apparently, the back of the body of the mower was lodged up on one of the fence boards. The back tires just spun and spun. I decided to get off of the mower and try to give it a push. The thing is.... somehow my skirt (being a little full) had gotten wedged between the back of the mower and the fence. Not only was the mower stuck... but, I was stuck on the mower - held in bondage by my skirt.
I looked around and considered my options. Jack was mowing near the house and would probably not be back in my vicinity for at least an hour or more. I had no choice but to exit my skirt and seek assistance.
Now, the good thing about living this rural on a road with little to no traffic is the amount of privacy this affords. So, off I set down our farm lane in my shirt and underwear in search of my husband.
By the time I reached him, I was doubled over in laughter and could barely explain what had happened. I was gripped by spasms of laughter so hard I may have peed my pants. (It happens, you know!!)
Thankfully, Jack easily freed my mower by pulling it with his mower. The rest is history... but a story we will laugh about for years to come!

Please join me, today, in wishing a very Happy Birthday to The Bearded One! Mr. Beard is turning 80 today. I only know Mr. Beard through his comments on my blog, but I can tell he is a very special person who spreads a lot of kindness around! (After being without internet for months, he took the time to reply to every single blog that I had written in that period of time. Now that's amazing!) Happy Birthday, Edgar - may your day be as special as you!
I have to tell you all... I have made so many special friendships here on the inter-webby! So many of you
are so kind with your caring comments. And although commenting is never expected (not at all) - those comments are treasured. Thank you for all of your sharing over the years!
PS... those photos of Hubbs and the pigs were taken yesterday. MaryAnn is back to her old self... and we could not be happier or more relieved!

Well, I don't know what to say about your predicament other than I would have probably tried to summon super human strength to get myself loose than to shed a garment. Lol! You are braver than I.
Very Happy Birthday wishes to the Bearded One!!
Happy birthday to the bearded one.
Happy Birthday Bearded One! Thank you for spreading your sunshine!
Yup, that peeing does happen. One reason why us old gals are tuff. We have to endure that kind of thing.
Your husband is a great guy.
Starting one's day with a laugh makes the whole day brighter!! Happy Birthday to the Bearded One. And I'm relieved that Mary Ann is feeling better. All in all, you made my day better - which I needed as the dentist is on my schedule which is at the bottom of my list of things I gotta do!!
Happy Birthday Bearded One! May your special day be a great one :)
Jack is the perfect helpmate for you ... but you already knew that! ☺
Do you suppose Maryann had a touch of the Swine flu? We are all glad she is doing so much better!

And Happy Birthday to The Bearded One,sending all good wishes!
Yay MaryAnn!
Mary
I myself tend to wear dresses over pants as I find them most uncomfortable. Living in South Texas I can get away with it most of the entire year. I will however keep this in mind depending on the days activities ! LOL
Happy Birthday Mr. Bearded One !
My brother has a lawn service & is generally accident prone. Told me he stepped on a fire ant nest (terrible in the south--their bites really hurt and make sores). Didn't realize what had happened until the first sting--they were all the way up his britches leg & heading farther. He stripped down to his underwear! Said he didn't think anyone saw this--I'm sorry he got in the ant nest and glad he didn't get many bites, but I would have paid to see this!!He is tall & skinny to add to the humor.
Anyway, I'm glad you didn't get hurt but I'll bet we would have all rolled with laughter!! Would have loved to have seen your hub's face when he first saw you!
I am still laughing about the adventure with the mower and your skirt! The photo topped it off! Ha ha ha! Thanks for sharing the story. We all need some levity.
although no “peed pants” from me!
I love skirts too . . . much easier to bend and stretch!
USUALLY . . . .
Happy Mary Ann is back to her old self, great news!
Happy Birthday to your friend THE BEARDED ONE!
