Summer is For Adventures

We interrupt our regular blog story today for a Summer Adventure With The Littles.  We had planned a cave adventure to one of our favorite local caves, Penn's Cave and Wildlife Park.  After all of the dry weather we had been experiencing, of course, we woke up to rain.  In spite of that, it turned out to be the best day possible for our adventure.  Cloudy and cool, the day ended up rain-free during our fun.

We met our farm helper Anna, and her hubby and two girls at the park and spent the day with them.

First stop was this maze.  It's a race to see who can find all of the designated hidden spots and then find their way back out again.  There was so much giggling and laughter.  They just might have enjoyed this attraction the most.  Because we arrived early, we had the maze to ourselves and the kids had a blast getting lost and found.

Next we toured the cave by boat.  It's 150 feet underground.  Penn's Cave has been a tourist destination for over one hundred years.  Amazingly, in that amount of time, the stalactites and mineral formations have grown about an inch from the constant drip, drip of water.  Each of the kids hoped that they would be dripped on... and be the recipient of what's known as a "cave kiss."

The last part of our adventure was a wildlife safari...

highlighted by a longhorn cow who tried to board our bus.  We also saw deer, elk, bison, black bears, bobcats, fox, and longhorn sheep.

Easton was happy to get to see real timber wolves.

The weather cooperated for our entire day... a really special, super fun day!

The rest of our day was spent just hanging out on the farm doing all of the things they like to do.  Feeding the animals and helping with chores...

With plenty of time for just running and climbing and being kids.

We plan more of the same for part of today... until the Littles head for home in the afternoon.

What a great day! I took my daughter there when she was little! It can be a bonus when you go on a less than sunny day…cuts the crowds down a bit. The first time we went to Knoebel’s it was drizzling and lots of people left the park. We’d come a distance so we stayed, the skies cleared and we were there from opening to closing that night. Best day ever.
