A Day Off

The sun rose in full force yesterday morning.  It was a cold 41 degrees outside... the result of a perfectly clear sky.  As you can see, I did not watch the sun rise with my animals.  Hubbs had given me the day off in preparation for a multi-day golf trip that he is soon leaving for.  "Pre-payment" for staying home and taking care of the farm.

Of course he knows that given the choice, I would always pick staying home and taking care of the animals.  For me, it's not work... it's therapy!

Still, it was lovely to stay inside and work on fun things.  I painted a few little pictures and finished some others that I had done earlier in the week.

Yesterday's  projects were gourds, pumpkins, and the farm mailbox as it is at this time.  (Although I changed the mailbox post from metal to wood - artistic license!).   I am loving this form of self-expression and wish I had started this when I was much younger.

I painted these pumpkins...

that sit in my front garden ....

I worked on the current knitting project... a cardigan sweater.

And I finished the (very cheerful) gnome flower shop.

With Pete's "help", of course!

And although it was wonderful to have time for fun, it was too lovely outside to stay indoors.

It was the perfect sunny Autumn day...

Sweater weather!   As you can see, I did sneak out and do the afternoon chores.  A day without barn chores is like a day without sunshine!

I also ran into our resident doe and had a brief conversation with her.  You might notice that she is much darker in color now.  White tail deer fur darkens with the onset of Autumn... giving them better camouflage in the Winter woods.

Oh, how I love Autumn!  I know, you've heard that before!

In keeping with yesterday's "day off", today's blog is short and sweet.  It's nice to take a little break from time to time.

Have a wonderful day... we'll see you tomorrow!

PS:  replies to some of yesterday's comments....

The piano music in yesterday's video was Dancing On The Light from Richard Dillon.

The banded chicken in the video is Ruby... Hubbs' girl.

And, yes, things just are not the same without the turkeys and Brown Sammie....

As for needing a bigger rug in my cottage... the dogs would agree.  However, this one fits perfectly in the space where there is no furniture and I am particularly partial to it because I made it with wool from my sheep.

And lastly, I have not been on MJF for about 12 years... one farm is all I can handle these days. [laughing]

I love the sock on the clothesline, as well!
You certainly chose a difficult cable knit sweater pattern to do! Gutsy choice, lady!

Your talents seem endless. Hard to imagine you getting all you in the day done. The throws you knitted for Betty and me are wonderful to get nice and cozy under. Your heart matches your talents. A beautiful thing Beverly is to see all your animals content and happy. They are social like I’ve seen no others. Such a pleasure to be part of your lives as you share the best of the best. Blessings

I'd forgotten your rug in the cottage is wool! Nice and snuggly for the dogs:) I'm a wool person - and wish I could knit. When did you learn to knit? *my sister taught herself on the internet (after going to a 'beginner's class which was truly awful:( *the first thing she ever knitted was a wool muffler for me - it is just beautiful! Enjoy your beautiful autumn . . .
I think that Flower shop is my favorite little house so far.....love all the colors! You are such a good artist....I love the drawings and paintings that you do. Yes, I too miss your turkeys, especially your beautiful brown one....I loved that they used to walk up to your visitors and talk to them! What a special place you have there.
