Goodbyes

I often wonder why we call them "goodbyes",  as they are seldom good.  Our Brown Sammie left us yesterday, and for once I am at a loss for words.  Sammie was a huge part of our lives for the past 12 years.  As such, this is a profound loss.  As always, though, we will work through our grief and continue marching onward.

For now, though, I leave you with a little journey of his life on the farm in older posts.  Here is a previous blog post about Brown Sammie's youth.  You can read about it HERE.

One of the best posts about Sammie's life on the farm can be found HERE.

My heart is breaking for you and all that have come to love your handsome boy. I am a little comforted thinking that Sammie and Griz are running and playing and exploring together. They leave us much too soon, don't they?

Losing a pet wrenches us as nothing else does, even losing people. When I lost my old dog I said to my vet that the time with her seemed so short and the vet said to us it seems like that but to them it was their whole life. Sammie was so fortunate to be loved by you all. Blessings on your day of remembering.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Bev, so very sorry about Sammie. He was a beautiful animal who was very loved and I'm sure his heart was filled with love for you and the beautiful farm that became his home. We are so grateful that God lets animals be our loved ones and the parts of our family that they truly are. I just lost my little doxie not too long ago and though he was only mine for the last four years, willed to me by my dad, he made his way quiclky into my heart. Grief justs proves how very much we love. Hugs.

Bev, My Heart breaks for you and your family, but know that Sammie was so grateful to have lived on the your farm with your loving family for so many years. I truly believe you all will be united again! I have a 12 year old pup who is slowing down and I have found myself taking more and more photos of him and not taking his time with us for granted, just loving him up as much as time will allow. Peace, Karen S.

Dear Bev and Jack was so sorry to hear about Sammie who passed over the Rainbow Bridge. My heart goes out to you. Animals are not just animals they are like a a part of our family, whom we love and take care of them, it is so hard when they get sick and pass away, but just know that Sammie had a good life and you have good memories of him ,maybe that will help you get thru this. God Bless.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I always loved reading about Sammie and his adventures. I lost my dog, Maisie, a year and a half ago. It's still painful. My girl would have loved living on a farm but we live in the city. We enjoyed many happy times on our daily walks. Sammie truly had the best life any dog could ever have! I would always giggle seeing him sitting in the passenger seat of the gator!
My deepest sympathies to you and your husband.

Hugs to you both. I often wonder why God decided that alligators would live 100 years... But my dog only 14. So glad you gave Sammie such a good life. Lisa G in TN

A Good Dog Never Dies

A good dog never dies, he always stays,
he walks besides you on crisp autumn days
when frost is on the fields and winter’s drawing near,
his head within our hand in his old way.

Thank you for all the wonderful stories about your Sammy. He was truly a prize, Bev. I got so used to seeing him in your daily posts...it will seem like something is missing now. I loved seeing him riding along on the gator as you did chores and zipped around your beautiful land. But of course, we can only last for just so long, all of us, and our time comes to depart this world and join our old friends in the next. I have no doubt that your Sammy, while missing all of you on the farm, is bounding gleefully in the next life with old buddies he has known before. Yes, this chapter has come to a close, but new chapters are ready to open and If I know you, they will bring more joy and love to your home and farm. Thank you for your blog, Bev. Know that we, out here, ache with all of you in your loss.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Dear Brown Sammie held a special place in my heart as well. He was special, this "apprivoiseur" of kids and kittens, natural born farm dog, hunter extraordinaire, wild at heart and yet so very attached to his humans. Thank you for sharing his happy, perfect life, and now your grief, with us. My thoughts are with you.
