A Garden Tour And More

Summer arrived (weeks ago?) last evening at 11:30 PM (Eastern time, northern hemisphere) .... making today the first full day of summer, here on the farm.  Happy Summer, friends!

Today's blog is a video,  brought to you courtesy of Mother Nature - with a little help from myself.

It's such a beautiful time of year.  I thought you might like to take a stroll with me through the vegetable garden.  We'll re-visit it later in the summer to see how it changes through the season.  Now... it's lush and green and growing by the minute... all to the endless rhythm of the cicada song.  (Truly, though, "song" is a bit of a misnomer if you ask me.)

We had a lovely, quiet weekend on the farm, except for a couple quick trips off the farm.   Friday afternoon was dedicated to a 30 mile bike ride through the countryside.  On the way home, we stopped for a slice of pizza at a local pizza shop.  Truth be told, pizza shops way outnumber any other choices for meals out in our area.

Saturday we attended Tyler's swim meet.  He placed first in all of his events.

But more importantly, his strokes have improved immensely over the past year.  It's obvious that he has worked hard!

By Saturday morning, the hayfields were harvested, baled and taken away for storage.  This hay will feed a neighbor's cows for the winter.  We no longer harvest our own hay, as no one in the neighborhood has a square baler and we cannot manage the size of large round bales.  And honestly, I don't mind.  Making hay is hard work; and it's quite stressful trying to outwit Mother Nature's weather patterns.

One last photo that I wanted to share with you is this...

Old Tom Turkey has been wandering a little more lately after the weeks of being confined to his yard.  Quite often he meets us at the barn as we are finishing our "closing-up" chores - so we give him a ride back up to his house for the night.  It's a long walk for a limpy old guy!

I've watched your garden tour twice and will probably watch again..everything is so lush. I love how content Sam looks. His dear face literally melts my heart. Congratulations on your achievement over the past year, Tyler. I can't believe how time flies and I've been following along since you were first born. That's the way to travel, Tom!! xoxoxox
Those *&^* cicadas! I am so tired of them but I hear we have another few weeks of them. You have a beautiful place and I know it takes a ton of work to keep it that way. When I saw Sammie, I wanted to just hug his neck. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless. Oh, I think I saw a couple of my fairies peeking out in the fairy garden. They are going to have to come home but they say they are staying thru the 4th. Hope you don't mind.

Beautiful video....thank you.
....And they say turkeys are dumb. Tom is one smart bird! We use to have an old English sheep dog, Rags, that would walk down the hill following our golf cart. Once at the bottom, he would climb in the golf cart and wait for a ride up. Love our animals. Patty McDonald
