Piggy Naps

Business first...
Debbie Garcia, email me your address.
Yours was the random name Hubbs pulled from a hat.
Wear the wrap in good health... it comes with a special
hug from the farm.
(I think I will keep doing this from time to time.)
(I've started another.)
I only wish that I had knitted 60 shawls, so
that I could send a hug to everyone who commented.
That's the hardest part of doing a give-away.

Well, it's Friday, and a rainy one at that.
In spite of this past week's cold temperatures,
I did manage to get a lot of garden chores finished.
Yesterday I tackled the asparagus patch.

I forgot to take a before picture, but let me tell you...
it was a jungle!

Now it is weed-free and has a fresh layer of compost
on the top.
I did notice a few tiny tips just breaking through the surface of the soil,
so it won't be long until we have fresh asparagus.
Sadly, it is the only time of year that we eat asparagus.
I won't buy it at the store, because by the time it arrives
from half way around the world, there is no nutrition left in it.
And if you have never had fresh homegrown asparagus,
you don't know what you are missing.
It's the best!

We had enough sunshine yesterday afternoon,
that I parked myself in the sheep/pig yard
and soaked in some of its rays.

As I lay there on my back with MaryAnn at my right hand,
I listened to the birds singing and felt the sun on my face.

MaryAnn was peacefully laying there while I stroked her neck
and everything was right with the world.

For that moment, there was no corona virus, no global warming-
no worries at all.

If you have never napped on some mossy earth, in the sunshine,
with your best piggy friend by your side,
you don't know what you're missing.

If you think you are in need of this experience,
let me know...
maybe we can arrange it when this pandemic is behind us!

Also, if you are in need of dandelions,
I can help you out.
We've got a bumper crop this year!

In case you were wondering about the violets that I mixed in with
my salad greens yesterday... I couldn't taste them.
They are supposedly good for the circulatory system.

Well, it's the weekend...
which, these days, is no different than the week days.
Our activities will be determined by the weather.
Either way, I am sure we will keep ourselves busy.
Have a good Saturday and Sunday...
and we'll be back on Monday with more tales!

To Kathy S, on the subject of our outhouse.
I could not be happier with this little outhouse.
It's a composting outhouse and it has absolutely no smell.
I would highly recommend a composting outhouse if you are in need.

Congratulations Debbie!!
Your asparagus patch looks great and to think you will have fresh asparagus before long is even greater. Oh how relaxing that would be soaking up some rays at BHA's.
We were down to one little patch of snow and got about 3 more inches a couple days ago and it's been too cold for it to melt. I do feel confident that warmer weather is coming, though :).
Make it a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday. xxxxx

Congrats Debbie!
We have a small asparagus patch, but it's not enough yet to supply us with a lot so we still buy from the store. But you're so right, homegrown tastes so much better! Dandelions! They're not out here yet. I can't wait. I make jelly from them.

The dandelion field is beautiful. I have always wondered who decided they were a weed? They have such a pretty flower and every part is edible, even the roots. Would be a great addition to your salads.
Your piggy nap looked wonderful. Lisa G in TN.

Congrats to lucky Debbie and thanks for the response to the outhouse question. Good to know. Yes, please. Sign me up for naps with piggy in the sun! Growing up, we had a neighbor who would make dandelion wine. I was not old enough to partake, but I would love to try some now.
Have a lovely weekend!

Congrats Debbie! Yum, yum, fresh asparagus! I have a tiny patch and over the year I never get enough of a crop to bring onto the house. You guessed it, I eat it all on the way in. Nothing better! I will be the first on the list to lay in the pasture with the piggies! Have a great weekend!
