Another morning with snow on the ground...
just enough to give the air a festive feel, but not enough
to annoy anyone... the perfect kind of snow,
and one that, for me can happen every day of the winter.
As usual, the snow had melted into the soggy soil by lunchtime.
It seems, each year, that the beginning of winter is the soggy time,
and the end of winter, the frozen time.
So, here we are... surrounded by soggy, muddy earth.
Grey days like this are perfect for indoor activities,
and the beginning of December supplies us with many of these.
Yesterday's list included Christmas decorating.
Hubbs put up my fencepost snowmen.
I finished the tree...
the mantle...
the dining room table (this dough bowl is enormous... about 4 feet long)...
It is filled with greens from the front yard,
pinecones that I dipped in white paint and mica snowflakes,
and tiny snowball lights.
I love to fill all of the nooks and crannies around the house with a little Christmas cheer...
This shelf in the kitchen usually holds my favorite cookbooks and some antiques.
I filled it with fresh greens and pinecones and critters from the forest.
The six corner shelves in the kitchen that hold my ironstone pitchers,
each have a whimsical snowman.
The kitchen window...
hold Mrs. Claus with her tray of gingerbread and cookies...
and Mr. Claus, sampling those treats while his favorite reindeer looks on.
Dear Santa... I'm sure your reindeer would enjoy a few Ritz crackers!!
The kitchen is warmly lit by soy candles with scents of cinnamon and vanilla.
My old hardware store cabinet has a few trinkets in its many drawers.
The hanging ornaments were handmade by Ryan, who was home
for Thanksgiving with his bride, Bekah.
Ryan inherited his grandfather's laser engraver and has become
quite proficient at engraving wood.
Bekah drew the designs that Ryan cut into the wood.
These two make a good pair.
The decorating is not complete,
as I still have another tree to finish.
But, we're off to a great start!!
