The Thing About Sammie....

Sammie is our very own Pied Piper.
Everyone loves him...

especially the cats and the pigs.

MaryAnn loves to follow him around.

Sam's not so sure he likes this game

"Stop following me!"

One of the unusual things about Sammie is that he will stare you straight in the eyes...
something that most dogs don't do, as it is seen as a sign of aggression.
Not Sammie... no, he stares you straight in the eyes and paws at you
until you give him the desired amount of attention.

Whenever we have children visit the farm, Sammie is right in the middle of them.
Most visitors express that they'd like to take him home.

We always say..."Sure, but you'll bring him right back!"
Sam has his quirks.
He hates to be left alone...
and will break through a screen window or door to gain his freedom.
We can never leave the house with any doors or windows open...
the screens aren't safe.
In the past 8 years, we have probably re-screened doors at least 20 times.
We could seriously open a screen repair service... we've had so much practice!

I took the donkey girls for another walk yesterday.

This time it was a long walk and other than patiently convincing them
that they actually wanted to accompany me...
once they left their yard,
they walked quite nicely around the perimeter of the upper pastures.

I think they are ready for a long walk to the 100 Acres Woods.
Perhaps I could even get them to carry a pack and we could go for a picnic.

Garden season is almost over.
In the next few weeks I will be doing one last garden box weeding
and then cover them with a thick layer of compost for the winter.

We still have Swiss chard, kale, and a few sweet peppers left.
Everything else has been harvested and consumed or "put up".
With outdoor chores at a minimum now, I have had more time for sewing.
I am continuing to make tote bags and purses...
and yesterday made this waxed canvas backpack.

With shortened days, the evenings are now longer... so I fill that time
with knitting.
Here is the progress of the current project.

Last week we replaced our 2011 Honda Element with a new Prius.
Now that we are making our own electricity, we thought it would be a good idea
to buy a plug-in electric car and the Prius Prime is
electric/hybrid.
Three days later (last night) a deer decided to jump into the road
and wreck the car.
It's a mess.
No one was hurt... except the deer, sadly, who didn't survive the crash.
Geesh!

That sweet Sammie. He is such a love.

We have two Elements and wouldn't trade them for anything! Sorry to hear about your new car and the deer. What now?
So sorry about your car. I love Sammie even though he has his quirks. He has the prettiest eyes.

Love Sammie.
What is your site where you sell your bags and other items? Maybe I missed this game no somewhere!?! Do you have an Etsy shop?
Do you make/ sell fingerless gloves? Looking for some “ fun” colored designs for Christmas stocking stuffers. Some with red and navy yarn in as colors.....hint....hint...!!!!
Love buying from local artists.....try to avoid the big box stores and support local artisans!

Thank you!
I hope you had replacement value insurance on your Prius and not just market value insurance. What bad luck to have had that deer encounter so soon!

Possibly the deer didn’t hear the electric car... Do you put deer whistles on your vehicles? We find it has helped and had deer actually stop at the road or turn back to the bush since we started using them. While it’s not foolproof it does seem to help. Just a suggestion. Hope you get some new wheels without too much of an insurance issue. Patty
