Hummingbird Morning

Every spring, the Ruby-throated hummingbirds return
to the farm.
In the beginning, there are just a couple of pairs that visit our feeders.
But as those pairs raise their brood, by mid-summer,
the feeders become quite busy.

These tiny avian hovercraft swoop and dive, turn, and stop in mid-air,
as they protect their precious nectar.
They are quite territorial and spend more time chasing each other
than they do eating.

If the following video does not show up,

PS.... thanks so much for sharing your farm stories with me in yesterday's comments!
I so love to hear about others' experiences!!
Have a great day!

Love the video! My hummingbirds are such fun to watch! We finally have a break in the weather, humidity is lower and it is so much nicer to be outside!

We rarely have two feeding at the same time, even though we have two feeders. They are fascinating!

LOVE BOTH YOUR HUMMING BIRDS AND (ESPECIALLY) YOUR VIDEO,,,ALWAYS GREAT!
I love your videos. I can't put out feeders for the hummers because the wasps are so bad here. I used to have them and I miss them. Are my fairies still there? I haven't heard from them. I don't want them to make a nuisance. But they do love your biscuits.

Yes, Patsy, your fairies are still here. I have kept them busy picking blueberries...we have so many that we could only harvest them all with the help of many fairies. I have been baking biscuits almost daily... your fairies have quite the appetite.... especially when paired with Brambleberry Jam. They seem especially fond of our nighttime bonfires and spend most of the evening flitting around with the fire flies. It's been a joy to have them here! I will sent them home mid-month, when the blueberry harvest is over! They might even be bringing some biscuits with brambleberry jam home in their pockets!!
I love watching hummingbirds hovering and flitting about!

It has always been a dream to be able to have several hummers at a time at my feeder..That would make it worth feeding them..I took my feeder down last week..A lot of people feed them here..I see one...once in awhile...Wonderful video..

My neighbor and I both have humming bird feeders and it's fun to see them chasing one and other back and forth between houses.I read they are so territorial because they need to feed every 15 minutes because they use up so many calories. At night they slow their whole body down to a stuper to sleep and slowly raise their heart rate back up in the morning.they are so interesting.
