Good Morning

Mornings are so quiet and peaceful these days.
The snow on the ground muffles the sounds of the surrounding hills
as the sun casts its rays upon the frozen land.

This is the austere beauty of winter.
But, as always, change is coming.
Raising temperatures and heavy rains have the potential for transforming
this winter wonderland to something quite different.

As you form a mental picture of how pastoral the scene here is...
you might (or might not) want to add the sight of
one grown adult pick-axing frozen manure out of the icy snow,
while the other is on her hands and knees picking up the
dislodged turds.
Reality check.

With regards to the magazine article that I shared with you yesterday...
sadly, "Country" Magazine is not sold on news stands,
but rather is by subscription only.
Extra, unsold, copies are available (later) on
This particular issue was the Feb/March 2019 issue.
I have a subscription, and my own copy has not yet arrived.

But.... if you are interested, I do have one extra copy that I can send out.
Leave me a comment and I will put your name in a hat for a free copy.

Finally, after a month of pretty solid knitting (mostly evenings)
I have completed my first adult-sized sweater.
I had bought the yarn in Iceland last year with the intent of making my own
Icelandic sweater.
The yarn cost about $30.
If I had bought an already knitted sweater there it would have cost many times that amount.

It's done.
I love it... and the fact that it is homemade is wonderful.
But to make it even better... it fits just the way I like a sweater to fit!
Big win!
(I need a new project!)

I love your sweater! Years ago my brother gave me an Icelandic sweater for Christmas - I'm thinking '78 - in these same colors. It's still in great shape and so warm. I can only wear it when it's super cold. And, yes, please throw my name in that hat. I tried about three different places to locate Country with no luck - now I know why. :-)

That sweater is lovely! I recently knitted a hat for our great grandson. It had been years since I had knitted and now I remember why. I prefer crocheting. I subscribe to several of Country's "sister" magazines but not to Country so would love to win this issue. From Kansas where there's not much snow on the ground but with the wind it sure seems cold!

Your sweater is amazing. Beautiful. You knit beautifully..My neighbor subscribe to that magazine said she would let me see it when she gets it. So you don't have to worry about me. Thanks. With all that rain, the snow is mostly gone. The ground is still frozen so there are lots of lakes around and fog. Enjoy your day.

Hi Bev :) I'm a new follower, here on the advice of Joyce at Octoberfarm because I am in the process of looking for my home/property. I want to live as self-sufficiently as possible and thought about compostible toilets. Joyce mentioned you installed one, so I'm off to look for that post. I can imagine the scene of ax and frozen poop lol...that sweater is lovely, you do very good stitching. The design is wonderful! I haven't graduated to anything more than stockinette stitch yet! :)

Oooh Bev your sweater is gorgeous! Wow. It looks like one of those 300.00 sweaters you see for sale from time to time. Great job. You are one multi-talented lady! Yes, please put my name in for a chance at your one copy of Country Magazine! I would love to win it! (along with many other people I'm sure!) … So you're getting warmer temps and rain? We have below zero temps in our forecast for the next two weeks. Well, at least we're getting close to the end of January! Thanks for an always great blog!

That sweater looks so nice and warm - I could use one just like that as our temps are currently at -15 F and dropping. I would love to see the magazine with your home and story article. I am jealous of your surroundings and the wonderful furry animals but also am well aware of how much work it takes. Give them all a kiss for me. And thank you for the opportunity to win the issue of Country magazine. Ranee (MN)
