Light seeps into the darkness, and a new day begins.

I imagine having woken up in a small Nordic village.
Snow, wet and heavy, covers the trees, weighing down limbs...
even to the point of snapping them from their trunk.
A small snow like this requires no shoveling, or plowing, but brings along its own extra work. Jack spent some time cleaning up fallen limbs with the chain saw yesterday morning.
As the sun rose in the sky, we watched the snow melt and fall from the trees in the woods. This snow, the first of the year, will not last. Its purpose fulfilled - a reminder that winter has arrived. Undoubtedly, there will be more snows to follow.
Mornings such as this are slow ones for the critters. Most opt to stay inside their houses, warm and dry. We kept the equines in the dry lot and fed hay rather than sending them to a snow-covered pasture.
Im thinking that these girls might have regretted their decision to "camp out" last night!
Wren and her Mommy and Daddy arrived for a visit yesterday.
She was eager to see the animals and approached without fear.
She was fascinated by the chickens, at one point following the rooster down the lane asking where he was going. I didn't have the heart to tell her he was running away - not used to having anyone follow him around!
This little one will be spending the rest of this week with us here on the farm.
What fun!
For those who worry about our heat lamps.... I can assure you we place them and secure them in place so that no animal can knock them loose. They are each secured 5 different ways. In all of our years here on the farm, we have never had an incident with our heat lamps. I take no chances when it comes to the safety of our critters.
