Since We Last Chatted....

It's 9 PM, Sunday... the end of a long a beautiful weekend - every moment of it chocked full of fun.  We've had beautiful weather... sunny and in the low 80's with low humidity... such a welcomed changed from the heat and humidity of a week ago!

We have started to take the horses up to the new upper pasture (the old goat pasture).  We walk them up around 6 AM and they take off at a gallop... happy to be back in these grassy areas.

Then they set out to eat as much as they possibly can until we bring them back to the barn about 2 ½ hours later.

I know the animals are so happy to have this cooler weather, and even happier to have the cold nights we've been having.  We awoke to 49 degrees on Saturday morning!

Friday night we had visitors.  Our farm helper, Anna, and her hubby had a movie date - so we spent the evening with their two girls.  These two have practically grown up on the farm and could probably handle all of the farm chores by themselves if they had to.  They are wonderful helpers.  They asked to hike the Dragon Tree Trail - so of course, we did!  As we reached the lowest portion of the trail, the girls found these magnificent mushrooms.

Aren't they just spectacular!

Hubbs built a fire and we roasted marshmallows.  (And all four of us ended up with chigger bites from the area around the fire pit!)

Saturday, Hubbs headed to Pittsburgh to see a pre-season Steelers game. I stayed home to take care of the farm.

I spent a quiet afternoon just hanging with the animals and enjoying the garden.

I am sad to say that I have had no success this weekend in getting Chloe to wear her fly mask.

Sunday, we celebrated Mackenzie's 7th birthday with family and friends.

Her aunt makes the most amazing cakes.  This was her birthday cake... beautiful and delicious!

There's nothing more precious than time spent with little people!

After the party, the two oldest of the littles came home to the farm with us.

They are going to spend a couple days here with us this week.  It's hard to believe that it's almost back-to-school time for them!

We'll have some awesome farm helpers for the next couple of days.  We also have a fun adventure planned for today.  We'll be back tomorrow with highlights.

Chiggers are the worst! I have often wondered about tics and chiggers when you go wild berry picking. Do you use a repellent when you do that? Worst case of chigger bites I have ever had came from blackberry picking.
Enjoy your time with the littles. Lisa G in TN.

Oh,the pic of you and your grandson is wonderful! Such happy smiles! Chiggers are the worst. They seem to hit the groin area and it feels like they itch for weeks! Not good, LOL. I love seeing those beautiful birthday cakes that people make. Truly an artform!

This is MY favorite time of year! Warm days, cool nights. I first thought the mushrooms were flowers! So bright and beautiful!!
Hi there, good to see that all is well in your neck of the farm woods! That cake, WOW~! We just adopted a blind mini, she's adapted so well, she seems like a miracle. The break in heat and humidity has been so awesome... now we need RAIN.
