Another Polar Vortex?

If it's warm where you are,
enjoy it!

The rest of us are experiencing a polar vortex with record breaking cold.
We awoke yesterday with temperatures at minus 4F.

By afternoon, it had risen to 4 F.
The farm animals are weathering the cold just fine...
with oodles of hay to keep them busy.

The rest of us are staying indoors as much as possible.
With the occasional trip outside for treats!!

Ginger and MaryAnn still come running whenever they hear the gator,
but as soon as they've had their treats,
they run for their door...
and back into their stall under the warmth of their heat lamp they go.

There's never a shortage of things to do indoors.
I suppose that is what I love so much about winter.

Besides the break from summer's heat, winter gives me the opportunity
to do all of the things I love to do but don't have enough time for
the rest of the year.

Your house sure looks cozy on such a frigid day. Loved seeing you wearing your mom's sweater.

Toasty is the best! After 40 yrs. I have started back knitting, the internet has been helpful, but I am curious as to the stitch you are doing in the video.

Hi Mick, I am knitting a stockinette stitch...straight knitting in the round. When I first taught myself to knit, I learned to throw my yarn around the needle with my right hand. After years of doing it that way, I decided to learn the continental method. Now, I keep my yarn in my left hand and just pick it up through the stitch. It makes the same stitch, just a different method of moving one's hands. By knitting Continental, I don't get a sore shoulder from so much arm movement and I can knit much faster. I go back to the old method when I purl or do yarn overs, or any other combination of stitches. It just goes much faster for me with straight knitting.

What a beautiful slice of winter life in your neck of the woods.
Stay toasty, all!

Being born and raised here in California......I look at your cozy home and think "I would sure love to have winters like that". But I know that I wouldn't survive even one day at minus 4 degrees! We are wimps out here and when the forecast calls for a couple inches of rain at 50 degrees, the weather news calls it "storm watch".

Thank you for the glimpse of your beautiful home! I think I'll go make some biscotti!!

Such an interesting post as always. Am interested in the biscotti and
have made a few. Could you share the recipe as I am noticing 2 separate
layers. Thanks much!

I, too, re-trained my brain to knit Continental-HA! I struggle to purl using Continental, but I do enjoy knitting in the Continental style. I went back and watched what you were doing. At first, I thought it was a version of "fbk", which I fight to do (or just elect to not use the pattern)
Thanks for responding to my ?

Ha - right now 4 seems warm - we have had 2 days of minus 24 with minus 51 wind chill (Wisconsin). Then almost 40 by the weekend....

Lord, I hate the cold, but I love looking at the winter scenes. I grew up in California so, when it's under 40 degrees, that is our polar vortex. It is a balmy 67 degrees here today. We are in for some good rain this weekend...those are few and far between. Bundle up out there...I would never make it in those temps.

Thank you for the awesome video Bev. I always love them. Your home and kitchen always look so cozy. I'd love to be a little mouse in a corner. Love seeing your beautiful farm and animals too....yes it seems to be cold almost everywhere these days. Hope you don't get the cold that we're getting though. I'll be so glad to see it move on.....Hurray for February...almost here!
