Spring Happenings

Hello friends...

I hope your Mother's Day was perfect.

I spent mine with my family and it was perfect.

And when the day came to an end, I played hooky.

I took an extra day off from blogging.

And now, after a brief pause, I am back... refreshed!

I am happy to report... the garden is finished.

Everything is planted.

The list includes... radishes, sugar peas, onions of every flavor, leeks,

spinach, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi,

sweet potatoes, lima beans, purple green beans, 

drying beans in a rainbow of hues, 

white and purple eggplant,

sweet peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes of every color (heirloom),

beets, carrots, cucumbers,

zucchini and yellow and pattypan squash,

chives, dill, parsley, cilantro, basil, thyme, rosemary, lavender, and oregano, 

and ground cherries.

Each day I work a little weeding and watering time into my schedule.

And I am making a conscious effort to work in a little rest time...

time to sit and marvel at nature and all of its tiny miracles.

Like...

Frogs!

We have so many frogs at our pond.

One frog... me thinks he swallowed a marble!

Two frogs... (frog hanky-panky!!)
Either that... or we have a four-eyed frog!

Frog song almost outshines bird song at the present time.

Turn up your volume and enjoy the chorus...

Yesterday morning as I was passing my perennial garden,

I noticed a large white feather in the Eastern Redbud tree...

I looked closer to see that someone was planning on feathering her nest with 

this beautiful white feather.

Isn't nature fascinating?

It's a constant source of entertainment... and it's free!

I also wanted to share my continuing saga of the grazing muzzles.
I was not happy with the grazing muzzles that I had originally ordered...
they just seemed too hot and restrictive.

On Dr. Becky's recommendation, I instead ordered this type of muzzle.
It's called the Greenguard Grazing Muzzle.

It is made of indestructible plastic and it fastens to a (breakaway) halter
at four places with very sturdy straps.

My horses adjusted to them in no time.

The muzzle reduces their intake significantly...
which, with easy-keepers like ours, is perfect.
Ordinarily I have to severely limit their grazing time to prevent obesity and its
accompanying health problems.

With these muzzles, the horses can be out grazing for hours,
without risk.
When summer arrives, they will go out for the night (no bugs!).

They're happy about that... and so am I!!
Today is mani-pedi day... the farrier is coming.
