Less Dreadful

The rain began its exit yesterday. A tiny spritz did begin as I was out cleaning the front pasture.  Not enough to send me back to the house... just a pleasant little spritz.

The pigs, who were also out in the front pasture didn't even seem to notice the almost inconsequential droplets.  It's so funny, the difference in personalities between these two.

MaryAnn is much friendlier and loves company.  Our across-the-street neighbor, Jim, stopped over with his dog, Ellie.  Ginger kept right on eating.  But, MaryAnn... she initiated a conversation.

The two conversed over the fence, as neighbors do, until Ellie grew bored with the Pig Latin and ran off to play with Chester.

Pasture cleaning is always a group activity.  At least one cat usually accompanies me.  Always Moll...

and sometimes Pete.  Although, yesterday, Pete must have been otherwise occupied and made no appearance.

A group of 20 plus guineas did, however, voice their approval at the job we were doing.

The dreary weather has given me a good amount of time to work on the current knitting project.  I just might have it finished by week's end!

Look what I found growing amongst the weeds on the hill behind our house!

Two baby white pumpkins!!  This is so exciting!  At the end of this fall, I am just going to chuck my rotting pumpkins into the one of the two patches of ground that we are letting grow wild.   (Maybe next fall we will have our own volunteer pumpkin patch!  Now that would really be exciting!

Lastly... a little pond update.  Yesterday' duck numbers rose above 40.... steadily climbing week by week!

in amish country they drive their tractors over the pumpkin fields to breakup the leftover pumpkins and push the seeds into the ground to plant them. voila, next year's pumpkin field.
