It's Dreadful

The weather is downright dreadful... cold and rainy.  "Horrid, actually," according to Daphne and Chloe!

Everyone has been staying indoors these past couple of days...

at least those who have sense are!

Some... like two plain brown ponies that I know have absolutely no sense at all!

Even Pete, who normally follows me like my shadow has opted for the shelter of the barn.  "Don't leave me!" he implores.

I've got to give them credit - the pigs will brave anything for a snack!

As for me... I spent yesterday baking and knitting.   We were supposed to have friends for an autumn picnic last evening, but the weather had us postponing plans.  Luckily we have family visiting for the next few days... so this blackberry/peach pie will be eaten!

To answer a comment from yesterday.  With regards to mushroom foraging, there are only two that I feel totally comfortable foraging and eating.  Morel mushrooms that we find in the springtime have no poisonous look-alikes.  As well as the "hen of the woods" maitake mushroom that we find in the autumn.  However, this autumn has left me empty handed.  Perhaps after the current rainfall is finished I will find some.  If so,  I will share that with you.  As for other species.... I don't know enough about identifying mushrooms to trust myself.  Mushrooms are tricky... there's more than just how they look to the identification process.  Eating poisonous mushrooms can potentially be a fatal mistake... so I take no chances.

I only wish you could send some of that rain to Georgia. It's been dry and sunny for awhile here in our part of the state.
We have been dry and sunny here. I love the sunshine but I know we could use some of that rain. Indoors is a good place to be on those days. I do enjoy a rainy day sometimes. If just for an excuse to read a book.

I hope you soon get to have your picnic. Your comment about the pigs gave me my morning chuckle.

Sorry that your picnic got rained out...Have a good visit!!
That pie looks like a master baker made it...by now you are a master at most things..
This should be the last day of rain...With all these rainy days, we have only had a little over 2 inches..Not quite caught up with the deficit...but close. Hugs
Seems like maybe you're getting a good dose of all that rain you were hoping for this past hot summer! Hope it leaves you soon so you can enjoy the beauty of Fall.

Hope your dreadful rainy days begin an exit!
We have had several bright blue days in a row!
Cold clear mornings, warming a bit, best fallish days ever!
