Sweet Serenity

There is something about seeing this whole group

out in the front pasture together,
that makes my heart sing.

They are all so cute and so very sweet,
and amazingly tolerant of each other.

Normally, I put them out in shifts:
equines in one shift,
pigs and sheep in another.

Sometimes I put the donkeys out with the pigs and sheep.

Yesterday I opened up the pasture gates and let the horses out with everyone else...
and waited...
and watched.

Luckily, everyone was peacefully just nibbling away, minding their own business.
That is, until the pigs decided that they needed more from the relationships
than just a distant friendship.

No, Ginger and MaryAnn decided they needed to get very very close
to all of the horses.

Pigs:  "Hi there, you like me, don't you???"

Horses:  "Meh!"

At which point, instead of waiting to hear the horses say,
"No, not really!",
I decided to bring the pigs and sheep into their own yard for safekeeping.
Why tempt fate?
I am not one to ever take chances with my animals.

Everything is always wonderful... until it's not... and that's the part I try to avoid!

Ten peaceful minutes together was enough for me,
and the pigs and sheep were more than happy to come into their yard
for a Ritz cracker treat!

When the weekend started, we actually had no plans.
Then, last minute, we decided to drive to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon
to join Amanda and Tim at their place to watch the Penn State Game.
The foliage was lovely on the drive.
It was a short visit... but nice to see the kids.
Then Sunday we spent part of the day with all of our Littles...
Tyler, Mackenzie and Easton and their parents.
Family rounded out our weekend and filled it with extra smiles!

Yesterday, of course, was my most favorite day of the year...
the end of Daylight Savings!
There is nothing better than a day with a whole extra hour!

I always think about you and your philosophy at the end of DST. If only we humans could tolerate each other so peacfully, even for a short period of time!

What a nice picture - all in the pasture together. I love the horses heavier coats.

Hail, hail the gangs all here. Sounds like you had a fun family weekend. This time you want to them! It was a beautiful one for sure. Have a good week even though it's going to be a little wet xxoo
Love, love, LOVE seeing everyone in the pasture. I thought the horses would challenge the piggy girls. They are probably so use to seeing them they ignored their presence. It's a good idea to not take any chances. We've raised 5 or 6 pigs over the last 40 years and each time I got so attached. Since they weren't fat belly pigs (but ones that easily reach 200 lbs. in 6 months), we butchered each one. Yes, I was terribly sad and finally decided no more butchering. These days we eat a lot of veggies, eggs and some meat (mostly ground turkey). I put pigs in the category of dogs. They are so friendly and just want love. Happy week. Patty McDonald
