Treasure Hunting

Spectacular Autumn continues...

and I am as happy as this gal!

I took a trip off the farm yesterday morning through the countryside
in search of treasure.
I was hoping to find something big to place on the center of my
dining room table for seasonal decorating.
We have a rather large table, and most centerpieces are swallowed up by it.

I travelled through the rolling ridges and valleys of our local countryside...
(still so green!)

and stopped in at some of my favorite antique markets.

Along the way I saw this guy...
a Gypsy Vanner (my all-time favorite horse crush).
These are the horses that the Gypsies used to have to pull their wagons.

In my dreams I own a horse like this and the wagon as well.
And in my dreams we travel the countryside from small town to small town...
adventure and adventure.
(A girl can dream!)
In my dreams, though, my horse looks like this...

My trip was successful.
I found this rusty old iron pig trough, and it's the perfect size for our table.

My pumpkin collection fits perfectly!

My other goal was to find something for displaying dried hydrangea.
I have several bushes that are loaded with dried or drying blossoms.

I love bringing them inside to enjoy throughout the winter.
I found a most unusual twig basket...

This evening we will spend Trick-or-Treat time with all three of our Littles.
We traditionally get together for supper on this evening.
I've baked treats for my little ones...

and treats for Hubbs...

These are simply the best biscotti... and are so easy to bake.

Your table centre piece looks amazing with all those lovely pumpkins in it. How unusual and how beautiful. You certainly did find your treasure and what a great trip out and about in all that lovely countryside. The gypsy horse is beautiful, but so are your horses and ponies. I like the Hydrangea display. Do they just dry out naturally and will they last all winter?

Louise....the do dry out beautifully and last a very long time. I have to be careful though not to bump them.... they like to drop petals when dry!

I can certainly see why you'd dream about a horse like that. So ethereal. My crush would be Moonbeam. So handsome!

Glad you found yourself some treasures.

Enjoy your Halloween party!

Thanks for the biscotti recipe -- I'm going to try it!

It never hurts to dream. That Biscotti looks wonderful. I'm with hubs! Great finds!! I can see you on the back of the horse dressed as someone from the 17th century. He is gorgeous... be careful, Moonie will get jealous. "Spectacular" is a great word for this week! It has been beautiful.xxoo

Curious as to how old your hydrangeas are? And do you have a favorite variety that dries well?

My Hydrangeas are Limelight hydrangeas.... these dry especially well. And they are about 10 years old. I cut them back a bit at the end of the winter and each year they grow bigger and bushier.

I agree with Missy....spectacular is the word for this blog! That horse is so beautiful he illustrates some of God's best work! And who, but a gal with an unlimited imagination, would come up with a hog trough for a centerpiece and have it look so beautiful! And your baking has me positively drooling for a taste! Thanks so much for brightening my day....again!
