Repetition

Superficially, there would seem to be a lot of "sameness" to each of our days
here on the farm.
I find the repetitive rhythm of farm life to be comforting.
I find that so much of what I love to share with you ends up being
a bit repetitive as well...
and I hope you don't mind.

A repetitive rhythm is never boring...
if you take the time to notice the tiny, amazing things that happen all around you.
When you quiet your thoughts and simply enjoy the moment...
you notice little things...
things that might have gone un-noticed.

So much of life is hustle-bustle...
and the little day to day miracles often get lost in the shuffle.
Perhaps that is one reason why there is so much unhappiness...
perhaps we have lost our focus.

As for my temporary focus...
a bit of it was on this particular run-in shed...
before....

and after...

Are you tired of seeing our painting projects yet?
Well, have no fear... we only have 5 more buildings left to paint!

Of course, the pigs were close by as I worked!

Amazingly, my nosey horses stayed away while I worked...

too tired to bother!

We added the finishing touch to the barn last evening...
every barn needs a star!

I have been noticing lately that one of the runner ducks is much cleaner than the other two.
Yes, we have one clean Nellie and two dirty Nellies!
It seems... that one of the girls is obsessed with bathing.
She hops in their little wading pool several times daily and gives herself a good dunking.

You see what I mean?
There are so many little things to notice around here!

In spite of all the work that we have been doing lately...
I still have found time in the evenings to knit.
Earlier sunsets have a way of gifting one more free time!

I just finished this wrap...
it is the lavender silk with a silver thread through it.

And I started this wrap...
grey to teal gradient yarn... with teal beads knitted into two sides.

All work and no play makes for a dull girl...
no worries... I always make time for a little play!

Routine is awesome. ;) Today I was out topping up the water containers and the chooks were oh so happily dustbathing in the garden. Those kinds of moments are why I enjoy my chooks, that and the eggs!

It is the days when the routine does not go as planned that I tend to dread and we had one of those this week. Usually those kinds of days involve a sick animal or some kind of appointment that I really don't want to go to. :)

And then there are the appointments I love, like the days when I see my mani/pedi lady, but even though I love them, they throw things out of whack.

I would much prefer a same as yesterday kind of day to a surprise here is what life is throwing at you today, day. :)

You are so right Bev about the little things in life. I totally agree with what "Snoskred" has said above also. I like "routine" and I like familiarity because it makes me feel safe and comfortable. If I have to go out of my routine it really throws me and unsettles me (think this has got worse with age). So here's to our interesting, comforting routines and let's hope that the days when "routine doesn't go to plan" are few and far between.

The barn and other buildings look great! You need to get a barn quilt now for one of the ends!

I agree with those here who thrive on routine. They are reassuring in a way, and perhaps give us the illusion that we have some control over our daily lives. Enjoy this final day of summer. Your Moonie is amazing.

I'm kinda surprised your horses need to be led, promted to go to the barn to be fed. I remember my grandfather just whistled and they stampeded to the barn.

I am very comfortable with my routine..Sometimes I find it a bit irritating or unsettling when it becomes disturbed...could be a control thing..Nothing dull about you, for sure..

Totally agree with you on routines--especially with our farm! When something interrupts the daily routine, I find I really miss so much that might seem boring or mundane to others. Little things are the best--feel so thankful to live on our small piece of land with our sweet animals and nature. So happy to know others feel this way :)

Dear Bev - I certainly don't get bored visiting your blog...you have such lovely friends (pets) and projects you share. I love your lavender wrap...so pretty and the graded teal is gorgeous as well. Yes those early sunsets are getting me indoors earlier too. Hope you have a lovely day.

Lovely! I never get bored of your place!
Moonie is so smart!

The clean duck reminds me of my pet finch. He takes a bath 5-6 times a day! I think he is also a clean freak! ha ha!
