Makeover Season

Spring is just around the corner and the excitement is in the air!
A whole lot of garden work was completed yesterday.
One more day of work should have all of the garden boxes built and filled.
As you can see, there are several long boxes and then this 5 box configuration
in the midst.
Each horizontal row of two boxes is terraced into the side of this gentle slope.

There will be a total of eighteen  3 by 12 foot boxes laid out in two lines
with the 3 by 3 foot (times 5 box) configurations (two of them)
in each row.
In these smaller square boxes I will plant herbs and flowers.

Once the boxes are complete and warmer weather has arrived,
we will be planting grass around and between all of the boxes.
Mowing is so much easier than weeding!!

Each passing day has me more and more excited to start digging in the dirt again.

Meanwhile, the donkey girls have a whole week of Fat Camp under their belts.

Surprisingly, Daphne's hips are beginning to show once more.
Daphne has always been our chubby donkey.
I think she's starting to look a little more svelte (from some angles).

Their daily regimen includes soaked hay in a slow-feed bag
and regular exercise sessions.

Time in the pasture is done with grazing muzzles....
which amazingly they don't seem to mind.
(they get a treat before I put them on and another one when it comes off.)

They seem to be ok with the present program.
So.... we will persevere!
It will take a lot longer to get rid of the fat deposits on their necks.
We are in this for the long haul.

Looks like everyone and everything will be getting a Spring makeover here on the farm!
I will be so happy when all of this brown is replaced by vibrant green!!

Meanwhile, my little guinea brain is whirling with future garden projects
and my hands are busy with three knitting projects...
not to mention a bevy of little pincushion critters keep appearing in my sewing room.
If I could just figure out a way to slow time (or make more of it).....
would there ever be enough, though?

The garden is coming along. It will be brilliant! Can't wait to see it filled with flowers and veg.
Hopefully, the worst of winter is behind us, and we are closer to planting.
Enjoy your day!

Your garden is going to be so neat.

Love the looks the donkey girls are giving you. They are sweet. Does anybody ride them? How old are they?

The donkeys are miniature....too small for anyone to ride...except maybe Mackenzie!

Wow, your garden boxes look great!
I can't wait to see what you plant in them!

Also, my friend was really happy with the pincushion!!
Thank you so very much for sending it so quickly. =)
You probably already know this, but just in case....Soaking hay is a great way to decrease sugar intake, but it also leaches out water soluble vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Fed long term, it can lead to imbalances and deficiencies. There is an excellent article about hay soaking here:
