Mid-Winter Pick-Me-Up....A Ground Hog Day Give-away

We are soon at that point of winter where
there is as much of it behind us as there is in front of us.

It's that time for dreaming about spring and all of the new life that comes along with it.

We are enjoying our snow...

some more than others.

Have you ever taken a snow bath?

Think spa treatment.

Oakley's favorite!

We are also at the point in the year where some of us are looking a little shabby.

At the top of the shabby list is the vegetable garden.

Oh my....it's sad looking.
Half of the garden beds are disassembled and the rest are awaiting their turn.

Come spring we will be doing a major garden overhaul...
new boxes, new arrangement.

Everything will be spruced up for the coming summer.

Now, however, while the snow is still on the ground, is the time for dreaming
and scheming...
planning and very soon planting seeds in the greenhouse.

So, at this time of winter when we all need a pick me up...
I am having a little give-away.

I am filling this farm-made, 9 X 12, wool felt project bag with dreams of springtime...
a surprise!...
and sending to someone picked randomly.
Leave me a comment and I will put your name in a hat.
Tell me the what you love most about Spring.
Random winner will be posted here on Monday.

Happy Groundhog's Day....I am hoping he's seen his shadow!!

Spring reminds me of all the second chances we receive in life. I love the smell of dirt and the song of birds.

We have had very little snow in the UK (so far this winter). It has mostly been wet and therefore muddy. I feel that I have been dreaming about Spring for months now and you are right this is the time to scheme and dream. My garden looks very shabby to - just can't wait to get on top of things and get everything spruced up again. There's a lot of work ahead, but it will all be worth it in the summertime (can't believe how different the garden looks now compared to some lovely photo's we took last summer). I always think will it be as nice as last year - I hope so. Roll on Spring, let's get some decent weather and start making our dreams come true.

Spring means a new year of flowers and being done with the cold and snow. Time to get back outdoors again. Time to think about opening up the cabin, get on the lake and get in the water. Weekends with all of the family together.

I love watching all the perennials starting to "wake up". We did a big overhaul in our our flowers last fall so this spring can't come fast enough for me.

Oh, I hope we get at least one more snow before winter says goodnight.
I am looking forward to spring with new motivation, as it will be our first spring in North Carolina! Awaiting the return of color, birds and even more spectacular sunrises. It'll all be new to us.

Your bag is beautiful, but please don't include me in the giveaway. I just wanted to share...
Good luck, everyone!

Spring means new life and renewal. When the colors come back, it's like seeing the world after a fresh rain. I am excited for this spring, as I am in a new home, and have so many gardens being built in my mind?

I love both Fall and Spring. Spring signals a rebirth and a change to reset.

As a huge baseball fan, I love this quote: "The true harbinger of spring is not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of the bat on the ball." Bill Veeck

But ancient trees dripping with lavender wisteria blossoms and bright pink and red azaleas exploding into a riot of tiny flowers ... well, those aren't bad either.
I love sitting on the porch and looking out at green, reds, pinks, whites, and purples. Tomatoes and peppers in the raised bed call my name.

Love your blog, excited to see what you do with the garden. Love getting my hands in dirt, planting and seeing those little seedlings come up. It is an exciting time of year. Now it is cold and snow on the ground here. But I am drawing up garden plans for this year.

overcast day, still cold, searching the marsh for pussy willow sprays - spring is coming and the pussy willow its herald! Even more than this ... I love the sound of the first red winged blackbird - that gurgle as if it held water in its throat.
Thank you for getting us through this portion of the winter! (and so sorry about your SIL's horse.

I love all the new life: The smallest of slivers of green shooting up from the ground, the chirps of birds as they come back. It's a new beginning. Simply beautiful.

I love the warmer weather and all the flowers starting to bloom.
Without question, our wildflowers. My favorites are the California Poppy and the Lupines. With our rains this year, we are all hoping that Mother Nature gives us a bumper crop.
I just love the 'buds' of new things coming--
like new bright green leaves on a tree--
or a flower just getting started and one has to wonder what color it will be when it does 'pop'--
and lots and lots of birds singing in each new day--
a faithful reader--love each and every post--
enjoy the moments,di

Late winter/early spring - my Crocus sativa and Iris reticulata pushing up through the leaf clutter and surprising me with bright color. Then the bees find them on warm, sunny days, even in late winter/early spring. And walking out to find my hellebores have started blooming when I hadn't noticed the buds. Makes me slow down and look more carefully at everything. Deb

Daffodils, most definitely the daffodils. To me they are the symbol of spring. My Mother lined our driveway with daffodils and I did the same to our home. Nothing says "Spring is coming" like those first bulb flowers.

Bev- First-is that a new profile picture on your sidebar? It is a great picture. I have a new computer and it has a wider screen so I am seeing sidebars that I couldn't see before. lol

Great pictures-love the snow romps there.

You don't have to include my name in the giveaway because I won one not too long ago. Anyway, I love a bright spring day when I can smell the bay as the ice melts and the scent of water fills the air. I also love to listen to the birds calling to one another in trees as they search out new homes.

Hope you have a great Thursday- xo Diana

We moved into a house after living in a town home last Spring/Summer and with all the yard work, unpacking, packing cleaning etc etc, there just was not enough time to try to plant any kind of garden or even planter boxes. This year, I want to try at least planting in the boxes and looking into getting an elevated planter box as the yard has tons of little rocks in it due to a previous owner trying to put down gravel (loose) for a driveway and parking area. Spread the rocks everywhere!! Wish me luck, as I will need it. Ranee (MN) The best part of Spring is all the buds on the trees and trying to guess when they will be fully in bloom and all the birds singing.

The returning geese honking as they fly, the budding trees, the Daffodils, and Tulips blooming, hanging linens out to dry, the smell of sweet spring. The spring rains, and sleet storms, the rainbows in the sky. The courting birds and the Mallards that stop in to swim in our ponds. The Rhubarb, and asparagus that suddenly appear, all these things of spring, I hold dear.

I'm allergic to wool, but I think it's so wonderful that you are offering a pick me up for all of us who are anxiously waiting for spring! You are SO SWEET!

Over here, the news says that we might even have snow into March, which means it is a very cold and long winter for us here! I don't think it will get warm until late April or early May! Boo...

Oh my goodness!! How in the WORLD did I miss this post??? Hope I am not too late!
Things I LOVE about spring...
1. The thing I love the most is seeing my honeybees leave their hives again to start foraging.
2. I love it when the bulbs start to send their green shoots through the ground. The anticipation of waiting for the bloom is almost unbearable!
3. The song birds start to sing loud and proud in the early morning - harbingers of milder weather!
Have an awesome day!!

P.S. Absolutely LOVE the photo of Moonbeam. This perspective makes it look like he is balancing on the fence board!
Good morning Bev! It was nice to visit your beautiful farm again and see your sweet critters. Love the pic of the cat on the pig...I always seem to smile when I visit :) Since moving to Arkansas we've only seen snow once (last year) and so far nothing this year. We've enjoyed temperatures in the 70's but now we're down to freezing at night...at least for a night or so. I'm not complaining at all! At least we don't get the wind here like we did in Kansas. I hope the rest of your winter goes quickly and mildly so you can get out and have fun in your beautiful gardens soon. Take care :)

What I love most about Spring is the new life. After a time of rest (Winter), we are blessed with a time of rebirth and new life... baby birds crying in their nests, tony squirrels exploring, new beautiful plants and flowers popping up to say hello, bees buzzing... I love it all!
There's so much to love about spring! Trees growing back their leaves, plants emerging from hibernation and seed, more daylight and time spent outside, the birds seem to sing more joyfully too!

I love your blog. I'm a long time reader, that doesn't comment. But your giveaway drew me out. LOL. ;) Mostly because it's something you've created. I love handmade!
