Moonbeam's Being Followed By A Moon Shadow

Confession time.
I sing to my horse.

I have found over the years that singing helps to calm Moonbeam when he is "up."
So, every day when I walk him to or from the upper pastures we sing.

Singing calms me when he's got the jitters....
and when I am calm, he seems to calm down as well.
So... we sing.

Music has been a huge part of my life.
From piano lessons to singing in choirs...
to singing in the car and in the shower.
Back in the day, I had a decent voice... not great,
but I could always hold a tune.
Now?  Not what it used to be... but the animals don't seem to mind.
And so... we sing....

Moonbeam is beautiful. I talk to my animals all the time and if they liked me to sing, I would (but they wouldn't like as I have a terrible voice and it would probably put the fear of god up them!!). Is Moonbeam classed as a pony or a horse (i.e. over 14.2h)? I have seen pictures of you riding him on past posts, but you don't seem to ride very much - are you not that keen on riding or does he still tend to "play up"? Have a lovely weekend. Kind regards.

Louise.... Moonbeam has this lovely habit of bucking at the point at which he feels he is finished with the ride. In the past I have had a fractured pelvis and fractured ribs from him.....and now that I am older am in no mood for any more bumps and bruises.... I prefer to keep my feet on the ground these days. I am content with just loving him now.

Oh, and he is horse sized. The camera was on top of my head....making him look smaller than he is in comparison to me.

I don't blame you at all Bev. Didn't realise the injuries you have sustained. You have too many farm friends to look after, you can't afford to be "out of action". Thank you for your replies. Kind regards.

lol..... I'm glad our barn sits in our pasture. We open the back gate of the barn and holler "come up". The horses run into the barn and go to their stalls. A whole lot easier on me than having to chase somebody down.

When they ignore me a few shakes of a bucket with some apple treats persuades them to hurry up and come to their stalls.

You have a great singing voice.

Happy weekend.

Singing has long been recommended while riding. Not for the song but because it regulates your breathing. When you tense up you often hold your breath or breathe shallowly. If you are singing you have to breathe at a steady rate which is calming. You can often calm a horse, and other animals probably, by leaning into them and deep breathing.
