Farm News...Slightly Chilled

Why is Hope smiling?

She's smiling because finally her wardrobe matches the weather!
We awoke to 33 degrees yesterday morning.
Brrrrrrr.
I'm not complaining... I like the cold.
It's just that I have not had a chance to ease into cold like that.

We had a heavy frost the previous night,
so I did a final harvest of our tomatoes and peppers.

I cleaned and chopped about 30 peppers for the freezer.
I also spent a little time laying out the new garden design.
It looks like we will be building new boxes out of HDPE...
after reading all that I could find about raised beds,
it looks like this will work nicely.
HDPE, though very heavy, does not leach anything into the ground...
and should last forever!
Also... it is made from recycled plastic bottles.
I like using a recycled material.

The rectangular boxes will be 3' by 12'.
The x-shaped boxes in the middle will be for flowers.

Apparently the Roos are not a big fan of cold weather,
as they spent the entire morning in the greenhouse...

perching on benches and nosing around the ground.

And seriously... I have no clue how these fellows stay so clean and white!

I am happy to report that all is well in turkey land.
Tom and Fred and Ethel are a team now.
Every afternoon we have the turkey trot par
ade,
as I escort them back to their house.

Hopefully one of these days they will think to walk themselves home on their own.
That is our goal.
Training turkeys...no easy task!

I also wanted to give you an update on Ash.
Since Audrey's passing, she has finally begun to spend her days outside again.

She had a several day period of mourning... which had me worried.
It would seem that time heals all....

The roos always make me think of the Three Tenors for some reason. Maybe because they're always together, at least in your photos.

I love cold weather, too!
We are "just" starting to get our fall weather.
I'm sure by the time I get used to it, it will be winter weather!! (lol)

I would love to see a video of the new turkey team trot home! (hint, hint!)
