Thank You!

To those of you who heard my plea yesterday...
Thank you!
You sent us your sun and we thoroughly enjoyed it for several hours.

It's gone again today...
but while it lasted, yesterday, everyone reveled in its warmth.

As you can see, the hens enjoyed the fact that the earth dried out enough
for them to take the opportunity to have a good dust bath.

I can remember the first time I witnessed this phenomenon.
I found a few of my hens sprawled out on their sides moving as if they were having seizures.
Spastic movements of wings and legs as they covered their bodies in dust
gave me cause to think there was something seriously wrong with them.
Nope...it's just what chickens do.
Dust baths help to rid chickens of mites...
and so it is an entirely healthy practice...
albeit bizarre looking!

And while we are on the subject of "thank-you's",
Tom and Chuck would like to thank our farm friend Jim Legner
for this amazingly wonderful portrait of them.

We were all so very surprised when this painting arrived in the mail yesterday.
Mr. Legner thought that the boys might enjoy having it hang in their house.

I talked it over with Tom and Chuck and they agreed that this painting
should hang in the farm house instead.

What a lovely keepsake of our handsome turkey boys!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
