Learning to Share

OK...
So let me first just say that you guys are the bestest!!
What a wonderful birthday I had with so many well-wishes.
Hubbs and I spent the day doing all of the things that I love to do!

I feel a little bad, however...
I selfishly stole the day and forgot to mention that it was also Faith and Hope's birthday as well.

Yes, our sweet "little" lambs turned one yesterday.

Faith ( as I look at this picture now, I realize that she has a hornet on her nose!)....

and Hope....

Remember last year when they came to the farm?
Oh my...nothing cuter than a lamb....

Remember that?
Oh, how I miss having babies on the farm!

But...the exciting thing is..
shearing is ahead.

Monday the girls are getting sheared.
Their wool will go off to the mill for washing and carding,
and then back to me as roving for spinning.

The spinning is going well.
I have built up my speed and am learning to get a more even yarn.
I still have to work on getting a thinner yarn...but that will come in time.

Next on the list of things that I want to learn.... weaving!
I am going to begin teaching myself to weave.
The loom is on it's way...not a big loom... a reasonable size for a beginner like myself.

"Hello, my name is Beverly, and I'm a fiber addict."
Yep, that's my story.
There may be no help for me.
Oh, but what fun I am going to have....and what nice gifts I will be able to make!

Happy Belated Birthday to the three of you, babies are nice on the farm, lots of fun watching them discover the world around them, exciting times with the loom arriving looking forward to seeing what you get up to :-)

It did my heart good to see those lambs running just for the sheer joy of it. Talk about being in the moment. Ya know, I'm thinkin', in the future, we could get sheep. ;0D

How exciting that you will be able to weave using your own fiber! It looks like they can't even see, so I'm sure they'll love being a bit less unencumbered.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hilary over at Crazy As A loom (blog) is a weaver by trade! Lovely person.. if you aren't already blog friends, take a visit, you'll love what you see.. and, she's a wealth of weaving advice.

Belated happy birthday to the lambs. I love to weave... When I was very young I went to a school that had weaving classes. I spent many hours on those looms. Lots of fun to create patterns. Was that your birthday present? Glad you had a fun day yesterday . Have a good weekend. .

I missed yesterdays post for some reason, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I did the math and I am only 2 years older than you, but I am envious of all your energy! You seem to get so much done outdoors. I cleaned out our tool shed the other day and thought I was going to die that evening:)
Anyhoo... I can understand you being a fiber addict. And all that new wool coming to you soon! Have a great weekend!

I'm a fiber addict too, can't say I'll ever be bored and can't say I'll ever use up my stash or try all the things I want to try! If you are getting a four shaft loom there is a class on Craftsy with Janet Dawson that's really helpful. I took a short class on a rigid heddle loom years ago, then finally got one, then moved up to a four shaft floor loom and hadn't a clue as to what to do with it - a true sign of an addict, buy it first and figure out how to do it later - haha. I bought the Craftsy class as well as the Learning to Weave book by Deborah Chandler and went from there. I can't recommend them enough! Once you get going be sure to find the book A Handweaver's Pattern Directory by Marguerite Davison (the green book, not the red), it's wonderful.

Oh, it was so fun to watch the old video again of your little lambie pies! I wonder if we'll be able to see their eyes again after they are sheared? Hope so. So you share a birthday with those two! How nice. Can't wait to see them after they're sheared. Have fun learning to weave. Seems like you can do just about everything! Good for you Bev!

The lambs are a year old already WOW time fly's . I loved watching them then and now on the video they were so cute . Oh shearing is fun , we made a day of it for our sheep shearing years ago as the farmers that did it for us were Italian and they would shear the sheep and then have a picnic of all sorts of home made goodies after then they would Card the wool and mum would spin it . Oh a loom that would be fun . Looking forward to seeing all the things your gona be making . lovely photos . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

Happy belated birthday! I share the same birthday with you and your sweet sheep--this just makes me happy! I'm a beginner drop spindler but dream of my own wheel! Was your wheel recommended for beginners? There are so many I'm not sure where to start looking! Enjoy the weekend on your lovely farm!

There's worse things than being a fiber addict... ;-) The shawl you are wearing is beautiful and you look so pretty wearing it!
