Itch'n And A-Scratch'n

We are in the midst of drizzly springtime here...
unable to work out of doors.
Luckily there are times during the day when the rain stops and we get out to
feed and visit with our friends.

They're up to their usual merriment...
working hard to get rid of their winter coats...
scratching what itches...

Yesterday I was asked the question as to whether we protect our beehives from bears.
Yes!
Our beehives are presently fenced in with a solar-powered electric wire on the fence...
solely for the purpose of discouraging Mr. Bear.
In the early years of beekeeping, we lost a hive to a rather destructive bear.
Most people assume that bears are after honey...
when, in fact, they are more interested in the bee larvae that are housed within the hive.

PS....I wanted to show you a photo of our twin lambs with their mother.

Their mother is Gracie and she has been offered to us with her twins,
so that she can "retire" on our farm.

We are considering that idea....giving it some thought for now.

Any creature would be in heaven to be able to retire on your farm. I vote for Mama to come too!

It's the perfect farm to retire on ♥
Ooh, you'll bring her into the fold... My vote is a resounding YES.

Please, oh please take Gracie! Living out her life on your farm, under your loving care, would be heaven on earth for her!

Thanks for the answer about the bears and beehives! Terribly interesting about the bee larvae. I guess Winnie the Pooh stories have us all believing the honey/bear myth. :)
Is it just the photo or have the sheep's tails been docked? More questions from me. Sorry. :)

There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a mother lose her babies over and over again. I know in some farming situations no matter how humane, this must happen, but here is an opportunity for one Mama to have her babies with her for the rest of her days. We have a milk cow,Annabelle, her first calf was a boy and we let her keep him until our fences could no longer contain him. Listening to her cry for her baby the day he was taken was one of the worst moments we've had on this little homestead. I promised her that day, the first girl was hers forever. The next birth was indeed a sweet heifer, Adelaide and the joy of watching mother and daughter together is so sweet. Don't miss out on that!

I wouldn't think adding just one more lamb would be a huge problem ;-) The babies are adorable! Do they have names yet or are you waiting til they get to the farm?

It would be wonderful if Mom came too....if you have room for her. Such a lovely gift to her for sharing her loves with you!
