A Walk On The Wild Side... Week 7

Every week we travel to the woods with so much anticipation...
to gather the memory cards from our trail cameras.

It's amazing how many critters are running through our woods when we are not there!

Hiking to the cameras is half the fun...
the other half is downloading the pictures...
waiting for the surprises.

Yesterday we put our hike to good use...
for our annual "No Trespassing" update.
Each year, before hunting season, we walk the perimeter of our 140+ acres
making sure that the perimeter is clearly defined with "NO Trespassing" signs.
It has become a yearly tradition that we look forward to...
and one that the dogs thoroughly enjoy.

As for the cameras...
Here is the best from the past week...

Whoa....fox on the run!

What a busy fox!....

Raccoon.....

Can you find the critter in the photo below?
Where's Waldo?

Mr. Fox....again....

Mr. Fox returns...

One of our 10,000 opossums!

PS...Waldo was a squirrel at the top of the picture...climbing a tree.
We had about 20 photos of that same squirrel...up and down and up and down.

We had a little snow on Saturday...first snowflakes of the season.
Nothing stayed on the ground...but it was lovely as it fell from the sky!

I love the ones of the doe with the big buck behind her, way down the trail! I tried putting one of my cameras on a rock and I got a picture of a squirrels backside as he jumped over the camera, and several of a wood rat! Putting that camera back up on a tree today!

Lovely snow especially when it doesn't lay. I blew up the picture and found the squirrel. Do those cameras make noises at all? It seems that most of the animals are looking at them.keep warm! Have a nice weekend.

love to see your nightly visitors. We have had a fox living in the hill behind us he has kept the chipmunk population down.. once in a while he walks right past our house on the lawn always looking in a hurry... The family of deer who shared the hill has been missing lately although I think it was mating season so the does go away leaving the young ones to fend for themselves..

Okay, I had to scroll back up for I didn't find Waldo, squirrel. I'm thinking fox and chickens don't go together. Tell those girls to make sure they go to the coop at night! How pretty are the snow flakes! It's coming!! Enjoy your weekend, Hugs!!
Good afternoon, Beverly! HOW FUN (well, for me, since I am city dweller and love animals) to see all these wild ones! But I have to admit that in the night even here in the city we have had white owls, fox, racoons and plenty of rabbits. Now we are seeing wild turkeys on our lawns!

I come by way of a dear friend who mentioned your blog. So nice to meet you! Anita

hope you never catch a hunter in a photo
wonder what is so interesting about that spot for the fox
so enjoyed these...and do you really walk the perimeter? How far is that in distance...
sounds like a good walk for everyone

We really do walk the perimeter....it is a good hike for sure...not sure how long linearly, but it takes several hours....we usually do it in two parts.

Welcome, Anita!!! So glad you joined us. It seems these days with rural land getting more and more scarce, there is no where for critters to go but into the suburbs and cities....sad, but true. Wild turkeys are fun....especially if you are lucky enough to see the Toms all puffed up!!!

Yes, for sure it's coming, June. I have this feeling that this winter will be a snowy one....we'll see!

We are seeing less deer now....I always chalk it up to hunting season...seems to keep them in hiding, except at night. During the summer we see them out in the daylight in our fields. Smart deer!

Where do they all go during the day??

I have never heard a noise from the cameras, however animals have much keener hearing...so maybe. They work with infra-red....so no flash.

If I had a dime for every squirrel picture.....Hubbs could retire!

I found my cameras on Amazon....

Our tendency is to look on the ground, and not in the trees!!
