All The Stuff That Makes A Day....

And so October snuck in this week while we weren't looking,
and with him came all the typical signs of Autumn.

I am no longer serenaded by birdsong as I do morning chores.

No, the song that fills the air nowadays is that of crickets chirping...
punctuated by the occasional "caw-caw" of crows.

Mornings are misty-moist and cool...
with the sun trying to peer through a thick veil of fog.

The apples stay as crisp as the morning air as we continue to enjoy
apple treats.
Ginger and MaryAnn look forward to their daily treat as well!

Mama duck and her 9 babies have survived since their arrival weeks ago...
and the youngsters have finally matured into their grown-up feathers.

Finally we can see our male to female ratio.
10 new ducks (mallards)... five of which are females, five of which are males.
Perfect.

Expect babies next summer!
Those babies will be locked up in the duck hut until mature... take that, you wily ole fox!

Can you believe it is already another Friday?
My, oh my, the weeks pass by so very quickly, don't they!
I am sure that you will be fascinated to know that the weekly rat count stands at three.
Yesterday Sammy found this big one...

picked it up gave it a big shake and I believed snapped its neck.
One second it was alive and well, the next second....gone.
Thanks Sammy... and thanks for doing it in a rather humane way.
It looks like Sammy is not about to be outdone by the barn kitties.

I spent some time yesterday afternoon installing two new game cameras in our
100 acre woods.

The first points towards this deer path...

the second points into a relatively clear area of the woods.

Hopefully over the coming months I will get pictures of the wildlife that inhabits our woods.
Who knows....maybe even a bear...and you know how I have wanted a bear picture!

And so, because of these new cameras I will be starting to post on Saturdays...
" Taking a Walk on the Wild Side " will soon become a weekly Saturday post
with pictures captured in the woods from the previous week.
Join me for a peek at what happens in the woods when no one is looking!

There's more activity here at "Wedding Central" to share with you.
Yesterday I took those burlap and linen flowers that I made last week
and constructed a few grandmothers' and mothers' corsages...

Just a little daily preparation makes a huge task like planning a farm wedding
much easier.

Happy, happy weekend to you!
I hope it is chock full of Autumn goodness!!

I love autumn. It's my favorite time of year pretty beautiful clear crisp air although it's been pretty humid this week. The corsages are adorable. What kind of feathers are they? Nice going to Sammy! Glad you have all your ducks in a row. Have a wonderful weekend. Love The camera idea. Can't wait for Saturday's posts.

Your first photo is so beautiful, Bev. It really captures the feel of the season. It is much the same here in Ontario. I love this time of year. The trees are giving their best performance. Love the piggy photo. So cute. Deb

I can't wait to see what you get on the trail cameras! I have one also, here in central NY, and have even gotten bobcats, foxes, and coyotes on mine! Although right now it is by our woodshed and is catching squirrels, chipmunks, birds, feral kitties, and a big old raccoon. Checking to see what is on there is like opening Christmas presents, sometimes you love what you got and sometimes, not so much! Guess I'll have to move it soon. Hope you get a bear!

Go Sammy! My pup loves catching mice and voles - I've never seen a rat around here, though :-) One good head shake and it's all over. Looking forward to your trail cam pics!
A Saturday morning read of Bee Haven Acres! Can't wait. And I hope you get that picture of a bear.....I think. Ha. I don't post enough but you need to know I read your blog every week day and now I can on Saturdays too. Woohoo!

My stuff that makes a day for me now is the crickets chirping , Birdies feeding at the feeders, Crows cawing, Miggs barking at the crows and Blue Jays squawking the odd Northern flicker screeching and still have Cicadas buzzing during the day , the roosters on the farm down the road crowing and geese honking , the smell of the apple orchards and corn fields in the breezes along with the wonderful smell of wood smoke and the sound of chain saws and people in the valley prepare the wood for the winter . Going for walks and taking photos . It would be awesome to see what lurks in your woods . I know here we have fox , deer, racoons , the odd bobcat has been spotted , possums lots of stray cats , skunks and birds of all kinds! Thanks for sharing lovely post and photos looking forward to seeing what's in your neck of the woods he he ! Have a good weekend !

Oooh, will you tell us more about your outdoor cameras? I love the idea of seeing what's going on around our place at night, as I've found evidence of some pretty strange goings-on the next mornings! :-)

My daughter wanted those same black and white feathers for the men in her wedding party 5 years ago. We scoured the hobby and craft stores but couldn't find them anywhere. Until a lightbulb went off and I went to Bass Pro Shops and found them in the DIY fishing lure section. She had bouttonieres made with the feathers, a white rose and greenery. Never thought I'd find wedding supplies in a sporting goods store!

Silly question, perhaps, but does the camera take a snapshot only when something moves by it? Obviously I don't know how these things work. :)

I don't know how you have the energy to get so much done in a day!
How inspirational!

I miss the morning bird songs, too. I only hear the few left that have not departed to warmer climates yet. They better hurry! ha ha!
