Masseuse, My A$$

Ok.... sorry
Please forgive me for the title...I just don't know what got into me.
But...it seemed to fit!

I have no idea what happened, but the video you are about to watch had a title when I made it...
and obviously it disappeared.  But the rest of the video turned out ok...

This routine is something that Daphne and Chloe have gotten used to.
I usually give them their rubdowns first thing in the morning
after I have put on their fly masks.

In case you were wondering, we are still in the midst of blueberry season.

I spent a little time yesterday afternoon picking as many as I could.
I also found two plums (the first ever!) on our new plum trees.

And... we have pears on our young pear tree.

And then there are the wild blackberries that are also in need of picking.
I will be combining some of the blueberries and blackberries to make a mixed berry jam.

Our apple orchard is also full of fruit this year.
It seems to be a great year for fruit.

And since we are talking about fruit...
I wanted to show you what our corn on the cob looks like.

This year I planted shoe peg corn...that is, the kernels do not line up in rows.
This variety is quite sweet and yummy!

I am finding it hard to believe our weather this week.
It is the end of July and our high daytime temps have been in the 70's
with nighttime lows in the low 50's.
Bizzarre!
Also... it's not been good for making hay.
And tomatoes, this year, are not good without the hot days to ripen them.
I'm not complaining though...
I love the cooler temps!

Daphne and Chloe must be waiting for you every morning. Lucky to get rub downs everyday. Plums, blue berries, pear and apples....oh how wonderful....What a crop of beautiful fruits. I don't think I have ever had peg corn. Sure would be fun to try. Bev, I think I told you before, but I will say it again...your blog is the most interesting!!!! You are always doing something different on your farm that interests me. Thank you so much. Have a good weekend. My sister and two nieces from South Carolina are coming for a few days. Should be lots of fun.

You look wonderful for midday on the farm. Who need make-up? Not you.

I didn't realize how small your miniature donkey girls really are until I see them standing next to you. And Chloe definitely seems to love the rubbins. Enjoy your cooler weather, we're on broil setting here in Austin.

Fun title . . . what an animal lover you are . . .
and of the gardens, fruits, veggies too . . .
I can name so much more!

I soo enjoy your blog!!! Every morning I go to internet and this is one of the places I come. My husband and I lived on a mini-farm in Floyd County Virginia for 25 years - not quite the farmer you are - but as a "hobby" we first raised Angus cattle and then raised Tennessee Walking horses.

I love seeing all of the fresh fruit growing (and the corn...how fun). How long does it take for the pear trees to be established before they start bearing fruit? As I am typing this, I am eating a very juicy and delicious peach! Have you thought about a peach tree? Would love to have fruit trees someday (once I am no longer living in an apartment!) Donkeys are sooo cute and sweet.

Hi Bev, I just have to say, I love your blog. I have been following you a few months now and I had to go back and start from the beginning. I love reading about your farm growing. It very much reminds me of my situation. I am living on 25 acres and going through the process of buying an additional 148 acres!! It's so much fun growing a farm. Although we have most of our animals for meat, I have a hard time sometimes because I get attached to my animals. Thankfully i have a few pets, a mini donkey as well, I love him!! And a bottle fed calf I call Beatrice whom I have gotten very attached to, and my breeding sows are my favorites, I love pigs!!
Thanks for sharing your farm with us, I love to hear about it!
PS. I wanted to email you but couldn't figure out how...

HA! Watching your donkey get that rub-down was so funny. And you could just see her lips getting looser and looser as you went. Too funny!
