I'm Dreaming of a Warm Greenhouse

Yesterday afternoon as rain drizzled on the roof,
and thunder rumbled in the distance,

I seized the opportunity to do a little clean-up of our greenhouse.
First I shoveled the snow away from the front of the greenhouse so if the sun
ever comes out again....it will be able to pass through the windows!

I will soon be starting seeds in here.

Tiny little seeds, nestled in homemade potting soil...
(a recipe of black peat, brown peat, compost, vermiculite, green sand, phosphorus rock,
blood meal and water)
kept warm by heated germination mats...
will sprout and grow into the tiny seedlings that will populate our
summer kitchen garden.

I can hardly wait!

Fresh veggies from the garden...
fresh herbs, fresh fruit...
all manner of organic produce to feed my family.

And all of it having it's start right here in this humble little greenhouse!

And while I work,
I am surrounded by my friends.

Curious critters who just cannot resist investigating all that I do!

I am so very lucky to be surrounded by fur-friends.
They keep me company all day long and entertain me as well!
It won't be long.....

First this...

Then this...

your helpers are so cute! it is pouring here right now!
I think my dad's favorite task was caring for his seedlings in the shed when it was still in the 30s midday. I think he may have secretly named them all. (sure beat pulling the cultivator in 110 degree heat in June. Dang, summer struck hard and early in Texas.)

Looking at these photos of your garden and its summer bounty should make us all feel just a bit closer to summer-like weather, don't you think? Thanks for the reminder and have a great weekend!

We are chomping at the bit too!... too much snow still surrounding my greenhouse.. but hopefully these rains will melt a lot of it off. I just got the Burpee catalog...
And Vicky's comment was mine..lol.. sorry! I was working on her blog and forgot to sign off before moving on.

This post made my heart sing. To see all your fur friends with you...made me really smile. My favorite part of the day is to walk through my front door after a hard day at work and have my weiner dog, Rosie jump all over me like she hasnt seen me for days. We have a silly routine, she and I. Not to much longer for you to work your magic with the seeds. Here, I want to put on a pair of shorts and plant flowers...I have to refrain because one cold snap, flowers will be ruined. Been there done that. It will be 72 degrees this weekend. And we really are not celebrating out here in popcorn-dry CA. Have a lovely weekend!

Great pics of the fur-friends! They all look like they have lots of personality! I must confess that I'm very jealous of your greenhouse. I'll have to file that away in my someday catalog!

Howdy,
How do you heat your green house?

The photos of all the started plants in the green house has me yearning for spring. It has been so cold here in the Finger Lakes of NY. Think of you and your animals often.

Thanks....it's nice to think that as I am trudging through snow and ice and freezing my snotcicles off, that somebody out there has me in their thoughts!!!

I do love the greenhouse. It is not terribly large, but gets the job done!

The wooden structure of our greenhouse is cedar. The windows are plexiglass.

Your greenhouse is fantastic! No doubt you'll grow tons of goodies in there!
I saw your piggy in this month's issue of Mary Jane's Farm magazine! So sweet!
I'll bet your furry friends keep you warm from the inside out. ;0)
