Sunday On The Farm

It's mid-morning Sunday.
Snow is falling.

Inside, the lights on the tree twinkle,

as the familiar notes of "Sleighride" fill the air,
just above the sound of a crackling fire.

In the dining room,
gathered around the big farm table are Hubbs, me, Dr. Becky, Amanda
and 8 of her college soccer teammates (plus one boyfriend).

The girls prepared omelets and butternut squash pancakes
while Hubbs and I were outside tending to animal chores.

What a warm and inviting scene to return home to on a Sunday morning.
(Note that even Maddie had a place at the table!)

These gals get together for a cookie exchange weekend each Christmas...
some driving from Boston, Connecticut and Maryland to join in the festivities.

This year it was a girls' getaway weekend here on the farm.
(Over half of them are married, and one with a baby!)
Saturday was filled with fun, food, and farm animals.

Of course the animals benefit from the festivities,

as extra doses of lovin' are distributed,

not to mention extra treats of Ritz!

Cookies were eaten

and exchanged...

and the house was filled with laughter.

Not long after Farm Breakfast, Sunday, everyone headed back home...
hoping to avoid the snow.

It's simple times like these...filled with friends and food and fellowship
that bring special meaning to the holiday season.
We were blessed to enjoy the visits of such a lovely group of gals!

Hello friend. I have missed my visits to the farm. I have been awfully busy at home. Some days, not ever even turning my computer on. This post was so wonderful, and reminded me of when our girls were young. All three of our kids were high school athletes, and we have hosted more team meals here than I could ever count. It was always such a fun time. Our house was always a gathering spot. In high school, my oldest daughter lost her boyfriend in a terrible car accident. Our house immediately filled up with a couple hundred teenagers and their parents, who all gathered here to grieve and support one another. But of course there were far more happy gatherings. I don't know why I recalled that one? But I loved that our house was always a gathering place for the young people.
XO Kris
