Maddie Update

I was away from the farm all day yesterday...
working part time at Hubbs' office.
(Jim, thankfully, was there to care for our friends in my absence.)
So...I have no new story to tell today,
but I did want to give you an update on our friend Maddie.

After over 3 weeks of steroids (first at high doses and then tapered down)
and antibiotics...
she is still hanging in there.

She regained the strength in her back legs and seemed back to her old self
for the most part.
(She never misses a meal!)

Monday and Tuesday she even rode out to afternoon chores with me on the gator.

The last couple of days her legs seem a little weaker...
sadly, we cannot keep her on high doses of the steroids.
And so we take it day by day and appreciate every day with her as a precious gift.

And truly...
isn't that how we should always live life?

As for the rest of our friends...

I just love their upper lip....they use it like a finger!

they are getting ready for Christmas...
trying on their holiday attire...
hanging the mistletoe and their stockings...
in hopes that Santa comes with gifts of Ritz and carrots!

So tell me....how many of you joined the National Opossum Society?

Good Morning!! Had one of our dogs to the vet the other day (just for shot updates) and as I was getting there someone was putting a Maddie dog in their car...made me take a second look and it made me wonder how Maddie is doing. So glad you gave an update today. Echo, our lab seems to be doing a lot better right now. You take care and I'll be waiting for the next post. :)
Not me, those things look and sound absolutely nasty when you accidently come upon them. I do, however, get upset when my dog gets hold of one or when my husband almost caused a pile up in the middle of the night trying to avoid hitting one but the darn thing played squirrel and came back under the tires. People shouldnt ride butts on country roads in the middle of the night! Theres all kinds of things that just jump out and you may wind up in a ditch!! End of rant ;)

No, no, not me! If there was a opossum hater society, I might join! I don't hate much in life but they are close to the top in my book! Nasty, nasty things!! So glad Maddie is hanging in there. My daughter is going through the same thing with their beloved lab. Enjoy the up coming weekend, Hugs!!

Maddies's Story makes me sad....She reminds me so much of my Taumee whom I lost last April. Maddie, you hang in there!!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your dog.
I have a very old Golden Ret. who is having troubles but not to your Maggie's extent.
I hope she gets better.
LOL... I did not join the society. Maddie is in the best possible place to go through whatever it is that she is experiencing... Lucky Dog, she is. Happy Holidays to you and yours - especially those adorable critters big and small.

Glad to hear Maddie is hanging in there. It's been so cold, the goats here haven't wanted to even dress for the holidays.

I have a Jack Russell Terrier who kills possums... so I better stay away from that society!

, Here is just an idea for Maddie in case it could help: Years ago I had big problem with my knee joints, could hardly walk. My doctor gave me silicium (to drink) called DEXSIL together with silice (called DISSOLVUROL) and selenium, manganese, Zinc and sulphur in the form of Granions. Today I am fine, no problem any more.

Of course you will do what the vet and you decide is best, and cats and dogs are very different. But...we had a cat with chronic tooth and gum inflammation. We treated him in all sorts of ways but the only thing that gave him consistent relief was a daily dose of cortisone. The vet warned us that it would shorten his life, but we decided to do it anyway, because it made such a difference in the quality of his life. And then, as cats sometimes do, he lived to be 20 years old.

Thank you for telling us about Maddie. I'm glad she was comfortable enough to go out on the gator again.

Take care,

Julia
