Animals, Vegetables and Minerals

In addition to feeding a pelleted feed and supplying unlimited hay,
we supplement our goats' diet with a salt lick and a selenium lick
to provide trace minerals.

Yesterday I placed a new selenium block in the Nigerians' pen.

I have noticed in the past that the selenium block disappears long before the salt block...
which led me to believe that perhaps the goats were
selenium deficient.

But after watching Audrey yesterday,
I came to understand why the selenium block disappears so quickly.

She worked tirelessly with her horns until she broke the block...

chipped it into small pieces...

and effectively removed it from the holder...
with the selenium ending up in a pile beneath the holder.

I try keeping the farm stocked and organized,
but it seems there are certain forces of nature
that work against me!

***************

I took a drive about 2 miles from the farm to get some pumpkins for fall decorating.
There is a local lady who grows and sells them,
putting her proceeds into a college fund for her grandson.

Upon arrival back at the farm,
I found the roosters playing in a pile of leaves under the sweet gum tree.
It seems I'm not the only one enjoying Autumn these days!

Of course when they saw me they came running!
Nosey Roos!

With the help of six nosey roosters,
I set those pumpkins up in a display with our corn stalks and mums.

Have I mentioned that I love Autumn??
PS:  Happy October!

Happy October to you!!! The weatherman says dryer weather will be here by the weekend, Yeah! I honestly was drawing up plans for an ARK!!! Maybe now I can plan a few pumpkin displays instead. Hugs!!
We brought home a few pumpkins over the weekend and gave a small one to the chickens for a treat. I offered it to the donkeys but they weren't interested.
