Of Pigs and Pizza

It has been a beautiful Autumn week here on the farm.
Cold nights...cool days...wonderful!!

I have been very busy catching up with chores,
thanks to renewed energy that comes with cooler days.
The 100 blueberry bushes were in desperate need of a good weeding.
So, they are all weeded and mulched with some good rich compost...
tucked in for the winter.

There has been a little activity in the picnic pavilion this week.
Our very final building project has gotten under way....

can you guess what this is?

It's a pizza oven...
a wood-fired brick pizza oven!!

By October we will be able to have artisan pizzas in our pavilion.
This has been a dream for several of us in the family...
a dream that is finally coming to fruition.
In addition to pizza, we will be able to bake breads and rolls, pretzels, etc.
in this outdoor oven.

By next week I will be able to show you the finished project.

Ginger and MaryAnn always enjoy activity at the pavilion,

as it is right across from their yard.

This cooler weather is perfect for our porcine pair of princesses...
and they just love taking naps in the Autumn sun....

almost as much as they enjoy visits

 and belly rubbing!

what exciting news! i had an old italian guy build one for me years ago when i did my garden. he made it too big and it takes way too much wood to fire it up so i hardly ever use it. i can't wait to see what you do with yours! this weather has been wonderful!

Your first photo today, of the chickens, is beautifully composed. You should enter it in a photo contest!

I can just imagine how great those pizzas will be. You have to have the luckiest pigs living on your farm. They are adorable. Deb

Your Porcine piggy girls look lovelier than ever this Autumn. There is a man at the Portland Farmers Market that makes/sells wood oven bagles and they are incredibly delicious. There is always early morning line waiting for the each small batch to come out of the oven and they sell out in an instant - they are that tasty. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun experimenting with all kinds of baked goods. A pizza with all your garden fresh veggies would be heavenly. The oven will be a great addition to the picnic shelter area & I'm sure you will have a lot of fun using it.
